Damn it all to hell my third exhaust just broke.

The Scorpion lasted around 6,500 miles and disintegrated, the original GT exhaust lasted around 14,000 miles then the pipe snapped in half and this last GTS exhaust made it a pathetic 1,000 miles and the pipe just cracked in half.

Either I am cursed or the exhausts are made like Sh#@

Just thought I would vent and see if anyone else has been so unlucky. Below is a picture of the latest GTS exhaust crack, I am going to try and salvage this one and see if I can get it welded.

Yowza!

I had over 5,000 miles on my GT and no crack, and have over 3,000 on my GTV and again, no crack.

I'm gonna have to go with "bad luck" on this one, man.

Bad luck.

I nominate Damien to stress test the Leo Vince pipe. In 2 months you can tell us how it does with 10 000 miles on it...

cheers

Hate to be the fly in the ointment but--are you installing them yourself?

If so, maybe you're stressing them--they all are failing as if the pipe is under constant strain.

Don't tighten anything until all the bolts are in loosely. Then tighten at the manifold and check to see that the muffler isn't being stressed. Then tighten the hanger bolts a little at a time, going around--as if you were doing up lugnuts or a speaker.

If you can't do it without pressure anywhere, I'd take the exhaust off and file the hanger bolt holes so everything fits without any pressure.

Take your time, do it right. Should work better.

P.

You're not sticking a banana in the end are you?

'Cause I won't fall for the banana in the tailpipe.

Well don't know if my luck is as bad as yours but. I did replace the original exhaust with a Scorpion. The original was showing signs of rusting and had about 7000 miles on it. I changed it because I did not like the looks of it. My scorpion exhaust broke because the little clamp they give you to hold it to the back mounting bracket broke under vibration. This caused the weight of the exhaust to all set on a very hot pipe. (I was riding back from a 600 mile round trip up north.)

When I finally got the GT back home I dropped the original exhaust and broke it in the place where it was rusting. I finally got it running again with another Scorpion Exhaust this time I used a double clamp system which held the exhaust well but was never really happy with the sound.

I have recently changed to the Leo Vince and while I don't think it looks as cool as the PM, Scorpion, or some others, it looks better than the original and to me sounds much better than any of the others. It is also a very well built piece of steel. Heavy Duty with a great mounting system. Leo Vince suggests that it should last as long as your scooter but may need repacking at some point and they sell the repacking kits.

PS if you do a search you will find that others have had issues with the Scorpion.

Regards
MGG

I have 17,200 miles on the original Vespa exhaust, no defects noted. When installing a new system, like other's have stated before, there must be no stress or pressure points when tightening the exhaust in place. Snug each bolt/nut up a little, wiggle the exhaust and repeat. Also, don't over torque the fasteners.

Instead of welding the crack I would have a section of flex-pipe installed. Find out where the local custom speed shop or muffler shop is and have them re-work this for you.

I know it has been a while; but did you get it welded, or did you get a different pipe, could you update? Nerd emoticon

His last post was over a year ago. I doubt you'll get a response...
