Modern Vespa

I am brand spanking new to the world of Vespas, having just turned my 100th mile on the odo today. I am completely hooked and basically can't stay off the thing.

I'm also brand new to this forum! Perhaps this topic has been covered before, or comes around from time to time?...I am curious as to what (or if) folks name their Vespas. I felt a strong urge to give her a name, which I had never felt with such intensity for my past motorcycles. These wheels have so much personality!

We've decided on "Bombo", which is Italian for bumblebee. As you all know "Vespa" is Italian for wasp....well my mother's family name is Hummel, which is German for bumblebee. I thought it would be a cute nod to my own family history and to buzzing flying things to name it Bombo.

Other names that had been on the table were Giallo (Italian for "yellow"...original, I know ), Limoncello, and Bianca.

My pretty little Vespa S is named Michele after my mom who died of pancreatic cancer in 1997 - she was my best friend....

Our name is probally gonna be the "Scooter",

I won't be getting my GTS until the end of the month and will work on naming it after I determine if it is male or female.

By the way, how does one determine if your scoot is male of female?

Does it suck, squeeze, bang and blow? Could be either...

My girlfriend has been calling mine "Grendel". It has to do with the black scoot sporting white stripes and my Grendel-decorated helmet, fashioned after the comic book character. The name, btw, can technically be considered a unisex name, since many people have worn the mantle of the much-feared Grendel.

Izzy (or Isabella)... I figured something this good looking has to be named as a lady. Like a boat. Its origins I will not divulge!

Oh, what a combo...that is my dream, to get a Mini Cooper to accompany my Vespa. Very nice. Fun, efficient, and good looking. What more does one need in life??

That's my scooter's name too. Cobalt blue plus blue denim, I just had to name her after Isabella Rosellini who of was in one of my fave movies, Blue Velvet.

My GTS is called Vinnie....and My Victory Vegas is called Victoria, Vicky for short. Ive always named my vehicles. Even when we were kids our family had a name for our car....and when the car broke down my Dad had names for it that I cant say here.

(As a side note the APRILIA Scarabreo 500ie that died on me after only 86 days was -- Scabby -- it was named that by my wife, the day I brought it home. Foreshadowing the temporary nature of that "bike". ONE YEAR LATER it still sits in a warehouse DEAD. R. I. P. )

her name is Apollonia in honor to the beaultiful italian actress Simonetta Stefanelli who plays Apollonia in th Godfather.

People at work keep asking my husband if I am riding my hog today. He tells them, I think you mean piglet.
The name seems to be sticking.

Coincidences abound...sorta. I did the opposite. I got a GTS 250 to go along with my R56 MINI Cooper S.

In the future, I will try to be a more positive thinking individual, but for now the name has stuck - my scoot is: "OhNo"

When I receive my bill for it's service it is "DOH!!"

Florence, for obvious reasons. A friend named my car, which is a VW Passat and the Passat ended up being named Dita.

I try to stick with a name from the country of Origin. I have a friend who has a Camry named Yoshi. It's a theme.

OH! And I'm new, too. Got mine on July 1 and I have almost 500 miles on it.

My scooter's name official name is The Sugar Plum Dream...but, I've shortened her nickname, which is Plumtilda.

You gotta paint some black stripes on the back of that scooter.

I was getting my hair cut today, and my hairdresser asked me if I'd named my scooter, and I told her it's name is "The Vespa". She has a Harley, and I asked her if she'd named it, and she said yes, it's "Dear God, Please Let Me Come Home Alive." It's a little long, but a really great name nonetheless.
