Yes! As long as nothing else has been agreed upon purchase. I paid for my first service as well.

Yes it's normal. And yes you should pay for it. Use the search function if you want to read about everyone else's 600mi services.

Yes...it's normal, and it's not free like the first few years service on a BMW car. Also, with the amount of work that the dealers are taking on right now, you should probably schedule service well in advance. If you can turn a wrench, you can take care of the oil changes on your own and save some time and money. Check out the tech section for some good tips.
Hope you having fun and enjoying your new ride! |

Yes it is quite a cost and it is necessary. I decided to do the first service on my BV 500 myself after deciding it was little more than oil changes in the engine and drive line. Not long after, I noticed some extremely unsettling handling characteristics. It felt like the back end of the bike was going to come out from under me on every corner. It turned out to be a specific bolt for the rear suspension that is normally checked and re-torqued at the first service. It is not specifically mentioned in the service procedures but the local mechanic knew exactly what the problem was when I talked to him about it. It could have ended up very badly as the bolt in question was quite loose. Given enough time it very well could have worked its way out completely.
At todays shop rates it is expensive but unless you know exactly what to look for and check it is priceless. Dave |

I paid even more and was shocked at first but my dealer broke down the costs for me and it all added up. My 3000 mile service is due about now, but I'm thinking Ill be doing this one on my own.

That seems a bit steep for a first service, mine only cost £25 ($50 ish) for my GTS
The only drawback of servicing it yourself is the warranty will be invalid unless you can get the dealer to stamp the service book for you!!!! |
