Hey JimC, we have all been there, in fact I had to push start my old '82 Gold Wing before I sold it. You know what I'm going to ask don't you?
I don't plan on it, I don't want to do it... and I'll probably carry one of those 12 volt emergency starters with me...
with all the gizmos being added to these chitty bang bangs... can you push start them if your battery is dead?

Push start
Just in case Jim is away I'll tell you with a fair degree of confidence the answer is no.

This is because of a chicken and egg situation. The clutch centrifugal weights need to spin before they will engage and they won't spin until the engine drives the belt around.

When you are slowing down normally there is a point at which the weights are going too slowly to maintain the clutch shoes against the drum. From this point you freewheel with the engine idling. You may have noticed the sudden loss of engine braking when this happens. Only an increase in engine speed can lock the clutch up again.

Regards Roadster

Too cool Regards Roadster, you settled 2 issues:

1. the braking discontinues at a slow speed and it ROLLS LIKE A CAR.
2. it can't be push started

Why not, can't you push it like you stole it, and get those eggs you were talking about, spinning enough to engage?
Alright, I believe you... thanks

He's right - no CVT bike (or automatic car for that matter) can be push-started.

The clutches don't spin till engine is spinning.
