Hi guys,

A co-worker rode his MP-3 out to work for the first time today and managed to lock the keys under the seat. I remember people saying there is a way to get the trunk to pop open without the keys so I'm hoping someone can PM me with the way to do this and we can get him back on the road.

TIA

I read the post here, and unfortunately, unless you break something, you need to get your other (master) key from home and turn it in the ignition, to the left.

(Heads-up for all of us, get a spare made)

Oh that is terrible. I almost did that myself. I don't know how you would do that. The trunk will pop if the battery dies but that is no help here. Does he have the brown key with the code? That will allow you to pop the trunk on 250's and 400's (not sure about 500's) and then you can reach through and pop the cable release for the seat.

Ok thanks to Jimc for the PM and we will try that when he can take a break at work. He does have the other key at home and if need be he will get a ride home and bring the spare key in tomorrow.

I have misplaced my key several times, but not in trunk yet
It looks like 250 & 400 models have a back door that 500 doesn't.
Just poked my finger in 500 seat-release, and felt the latch while turning key seat-release at ignition.
So, if you own a 500, it may take work, but a manual key-less release is feasible with some mechanical skills.

I have misplaced my key several times. (yes, I have a hook where I hang it)
One reason, is I keep it singular so my janitor set doesn't scratch up the area.
Since searching before, and this post, I have a cheap, no scratching key fob that's hard to lose.

Just keep it in the ignition or in your pocket

Lol, love your key chain. Almost as visible as an audible "the clapper" type locator.

Ok it does look like some damage will be taken if we do this, in light of that he decided to catch a ride home and bring his key back tomorrow. Thanks all for the help and maybe try this nice mod for yourself
Hidden emergency trunk release, DiY... it takes 15 minutes.

I am going to come up with something. I HATE trying to turn the key with my carabiner all bunched up. Is really a silly enclosed location for the key to be inserted.

Would you please copy/paste that PM for me too? I just know I'm going to pull a *DOH!* a long way from home one day, and most likely when my sidekick is out-of-town or something.

A Grip-Lock, Google it or search this forum for more info.

Picked up the remove before flight strap years ago at a Cycle Gear in California.

I don't use it for anything but I thought it fit the thread.
