Yesterday I dumped my BV250. I know! Stoopid! It fell on its left side and was on the ground about a minute before I had checked out myself and picked it up. Got back on and rode to the store. Noticed engine oil dripping from the air cleaner housing. Scratched my head and checked engine oil level - half the oil was gone! Then I figured it out. In the minute lying on the ground half the engine oil had escaped through the crnkcase breather into the intake tract. Luckily no harm done, topped off the oil (couldn't find 5w-40, by the way, put in 5w-30) and the airbox quit dripping overnight. If I hadn't noticed, could have said bye-bye to the motor!

Love the bike - rock steady at highway speeds, the wife loves it (she wouldn't ride on my Honda 550K that I had for 30 years).

Beefs: 1) The helmet compartment isn't - could take a kid's bike helmet at a pinch. You have to have a top box. 2) No sound repeater on the turn signal -nor self cancellation 3) No trip odometer 4) No tach

Tip: Fill without over filling/spillage? Keep the ignition on and watching the gas gauge.

Good thing you checked the oil. I'm not sure I've heard of that happening before.

By the way, have you joined the Toronto Moto Scooter Club yet? The link is in my signature below, come on our group rides.

Sorry to hear about your tip-over. How many miles on the bike? Now might be a good time to go ahead and do an oil change to get the bike back on a 5w40 diet. If it were fall or spring, I'd say don't worry about it, but with it being mid-summer, I'd be concerned about the 5w30 being too thin at full operating temp.

It happened to me on my X9 250. Make sure you clean and re-oil the air filter.

Good advice
Appreciate the input. I guess I will have to track down 5W-40 someplace. The bike has 6,000 Km on the clock. Getting at the air filter is a pig but I guess it has to b e done.

Thanks[/quote]

In summer, it would be better to use 10w40 if you can't get 5w40, rather than 5w30. The 5 and 10 have to do with cold performance, which you won't have any of in summer/fall.
