Hi everyone. This is day 2. I'm having a blast. The owner's manual says no riding on state highways or freeways. What's the real deal?

I know mine says that you're not supposed to go on extended rides at maximum speed until after the break-in period.
Exactly what is the break-in period? |

Break-in period?
...like. Shoes? O_O Salima, is 625 miles the break in distance? That sucks, it'll take me months to hit that! |

Bought my GT 200 on June 7 and hit 625 miles on July 7. Haven't taken a long trip yet -- just commuting to town, running errands, going to the beach and golf course, etc. You'll be surprised how the miles fly by.
The deal is: Don't over stress the engine and don't run it under load for a long time at the same RPM. You can ride on the highway -- even the freeway -- but keep it to short distances and at vary the speed. After 625 miles, change the oil -- getting rid of any little metal bits and shavings -- put in new, clean lubricant and go crazy. |

Did you notice that 80% of your manual is discaimers and warnings? "Don't stick your fingers in the spokes while driving" kinda stuff?
Your GTS is registered as a motorcycle, highway legal. It is a 250cc vehicle capable of nearly 90mph. Of course you can take freeways or highways. Constant high-speed cruising has consequences: 1. Oil consumption will increase. 2. More wear on your transmission. Plus, on some highways posted speed limits are not followed and you may be a rolling roadblock. So, the answer is: of course you can take highways whenever necessary (or expedient). I never hesitate to jump onto the interstate when I need to. Your bike was not, however designed for this type of use, so use discretion. P. |

I know of another Vepsa rider who just purchased a 2009 GTS250 he is taking it on a trip this weekend and recommends the above link to debunk most break-in rumors. I am not saying to follow the instructions or agree with the guidance offered but it does kind of make sense when you read it. Jess |

Hey Jess
I 100% agree with you, from having built many race motor mainly BMWs for myself and customers, the break in time is not as long as it use to be in the 70s and 80s. As one of my old engine builders you to say if it was built right the first time it will be fine. We break in all our motors street or race just like in that link you posted. BTW Jess I broke in your scoot this way that's why it's soo fast 8)
