i just saw a story on the news about the motorcycle/scooter parking situation downtown hartford, ct. THERE IS NONE! i didn't realize that motorcycles/scooters are not allowed to park in the parking garages downtown because they lack the metal mass needed to lift the gate and the gate can come down on the rider if they try to follow the car preceeding them out of the garage. .
the director of the parking association said "we kind of skipped this one little population because it snuck up on us. it snuck up on us because of gas prices."

so fix it!!!

i used to work downtown hartford and i can tell you on street parking is nearly impossible to find.
where does that leave us?

do other people have this problem in their metro areas?

I think the problem is all over the counrty and at office parks too. Columbus OH just opened a MC and Scooter parking lot in downtown. I am always reading posts about fights with management companies and condo associations about PTW parking.

Here is a thread on MV I wasted most of my work day with.

https://modernvespa.com/forum/topic29967

The best advice is to ask the powers that be to please do something about it.
Step two is when you are ignored organize the local riders to take up all the parking in the center city, Government area or Retail with one ride per space.
Then ask again. Repeat until they get it.

Edit: Does your avatar have a sister?

hey, good thread, drew. i actually read that when it initially came out but never followed up.

unfortunately in hartford there are no retail shops (like one old lady store where the clothes are hideous and overpriced) and the gov area is somewhat out of downtown. nothing but insurance companies, offices and a TON of bars and restaurants.

i agree with you, something has to be done, especially for the nine to fivers mon-fri that want to commute on their scoots/bikes. i don't work downtown anymore...i party there, but i leave the scoot at home.

no sister...but she is hot huh?

Could someone do me the courtesy of explaining what PTW stands for? I tried a Google: Define but all it told me was that it was the name of a group of Korean architects... Or something along those lines.

I'm sure I'll smack myself for not working it out.

My guess is Puritanical Treacle Workers.

This is a pretty new anagram for me to.

Saves time talking about motorcycles and scooters etc.

Best Regards to you mate!

Not late for me! It's just after lunch time (12:32) here in "sunny" New Zealand.

Thanks for the info, looks like it's a new one for Google too.

Powered Two Wheelers is a good acronym, but I prefer mine

Eh...happened to me here in Milwaukee a few times. Tried parking at a big office building and the security guard came up to me. I told him "I'll park at the building next door" His answer:"I can see it so I'll call the cops". I then told him that I will park it across the street and she threatened me to call the cops as well. Milwaukee is pretty Harley dominated, but I can imagine that companies will become more strict once scooters take over.

Cheers
Ken

The funny thing is my 200lb chinascoot trips the gates just fine in our garage - only we are not allowed to do so for liability reasons. They just bought a shorter arm that allows MCs to squeeze by, I guess they figure the tiny percentage chance of the arm coming down on your head is better than the moderate chance of falling down or getting snagged on the arm

Hartford sucks, any surprise there? (I'm a born and raised native). I'd be more worried about theft than parking anyways bringing it into the "city".
