Ok. Not the smartest thing I've done, but I did it. So...I was holding the brake, trying to go slow, throttle wide open, effectively trying to get the piston to fire to keep the bike verticle. I smoked it. From those who understand the mechanics...what damage if any have I done. I haven't noticed a performance change, yet. Thanks for your input.

What are the symptoms?
You probably put a few thousand miles worth of wear on your drive belt. |

A little burn-out? No harm , maybe 1000 miles of the tyre life, but hey...
Next time, do it just before getting desperately needed new tyres. |

I'll clarify. I didn't smoke the tire. I had smoke coming from the engine area. I did it by holding the back brake and throttle open. Let's not get into the reason...it was a weak moment. I doubt the drive belt would smoke as it has deep groves in it? What else is in there? Thanks.

It's most likely the drive belt. That's the weak point if the rear wheel is held stationary while the engine runs full throttle.

Hmm...Holding the rear brake with the throttle wide open...Sounds like you were trying to do a burnout. Guess you succeded, only youre supposed to do it to the tire, not your drive belt brah!
You probably have mere minutes left before it explodes into wads of frizz! Just kidding, you should be ok... |

You've burned the belt. You might wish to replace it, if it has a few thousand miles on it. Replace it before it breaks. Once it breaks it'll be a bitch to clean up. How many miles are spec for an LX150 belt? How many miles do you have the current belt.

you burned your belt and perhaps the plastic bits in the variator.(Rollers & guide bushings)
if it was really bad you could have burned the seals in the torque driver. not too expensive, but you may need special tools to replace torque driver seals.... hope there was beer involved.......(as in "hold ma' beer) R 8) |

Deb (that being said he is a little crazy... ) Looked like an attempt to feather the rear brake and throttle to maintain control at low speed, but instead of minimal inputs of throttle controlled with the brake, it was fullish throttle and lots of brake to keep the speed down I'd guess the clutch too, more than just a bit of glazing to judge by the amount of smoke! |

Yes its me. Yes it was a weak moment! Yes I was full throttle for about 52 seconds with full rear break. It has a brand new drive belt in it with new rollers. Question: is the clutch independent? Is it expensive? If it is clutch worn will it let go all at once or slowly loose its use? Thanks.

The clutch material normally glazes the clutch bell gradually, reducing its effectiveness.
I would inspect the belt, rollers, and clutch ASAP. The rollers and clutch don't usually fail too catastrophically, but if that belt goes then it'll be a MESS to clean up. My money is still on the belt, but it could also be the clutch. |
