With the gas light on steady? I was not too close to a gas station with the light came on. I made it about 8-10 miles with out running out

Not ever being in a position where I had to wait before filling up before, I don't have any idea about how many miles I have to go once the light comes on steady, before it runs out. I know when the light on my car comes on it is almost too late.

I did a search! (too many unrelated topics) I thought it would be easier to just ask.

I would like to have some sort of idea before we hit the road next week.

Thanks in advance.
