I got mine, because I asked for it. However the dealership told me that it was not necessary to have one. They stated it was only used for those who lived overseas. Don't know why though.

Its been discussed here and if I remember it is either useless or not needed, or obsolete. All I remember is I didn't need it after reading the discussion! ;0)

I also learned of the code card while perusing the owner's manual. Seeing as how I didn't get it when I took delivery I called and asked my dealer about it. He said they aren't any good stateside so they just discard them when the scooters come in. Personally, I'd just as soon have had it and never used it than to have the dealer just discard it, but too little to late now.

Very Important......
Hi Peeps, If i may
Your code card is important.
The series of numbers on your card translates to the physical cuts of your key. In this case, depth and spacing for sidewinder. Unlike the Traditional modern vespa Transponder keys code card i.e. W1111. Your sidewinder key is more difficult to originate. But can be done, i have.
Most locksmiths i know don't have a sidewinder key machine, they are expensive, and can be a pain to keep calibrated. Also fewer Auto makers require this style of key.
I have suggested this many times. PLEASE, take a good digital picture of your key, and if you have a local locksmith that deals in Transponder have them read your key. Your Electronic key code (16 digits) is priceless.
***Providing you have your electronic key code and a digital picture, you are covered 100%***
Hope this help.
Cheers, Jim

I agree with Jim and TOTALLY disagree with your dealer. I would call that dealer and demand the key card. You spent $8-9k for you MP3 and should get everything that you are supposed to get. The owners manual is very clear that it is needed. I would rather have it a never need it, than wishing I had it. Just my opinion.

Extra keys
Suggest you get one or two extra keys cut before you need one.
jimh in Maine is offering cut keys (no remote) at a very good price. I got mine back in less than a week.
See this thread for details:
The Keys are here (as promised)
Thanks again Jim!
