I guess when the forum is older than most of your scooters it seems like a really old, dusty thing ..doesn't it? Something you can really kick back, reminisce and be nostalgic about... *in old codger voice* I was there when Lucky and Spock both still posted! *waves cane in air* and few people had even heard of our next President. I'm not jealous of these flag waving patch owners. Why should you be? Quit pissing in the pool and let people live. It's just a thread, like your pride in letting everyone know you have OLD scooters: '62 GS160mk1, '65 SS180, '65 Fuji Rabbit S402BT, '74 Lambretta Jet200 I use AdBlockPlus on Firefox to totally disable LOUD, ANNOYING, BANNERS configured into personal signature line. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865 ⚠️ Last edited by johnwwwatson on UTC; edited 3 times

One of the things I like about MV is that it's not that. The extraordinary growth of the site and a different patch thread had me thinking of how Jess (apparently) used a free patch as a lure to get non-registered users and <2-post "lurkers" to participate in a fledgling forum. I thought it was brilliant move. I wondered who was still here and remembered it so I asked. I happened to stumble upon MV shortly after Jess launched. I'm member #22...which is worth exactly nothing. There are many members who know more about scooters than me. Deriving some kind of self worth from the fact that I randomly happened to join when I did would be pretty freakin' lame. It might have been a goofy, throwaway topic, but it couldn't possibly be of lesser value than some of the stuff that gets posted. Kevin wrote: You're a straight-shooter, too, Eric, and despite the fact that you felt the need to piss all over my thread I generally like your posts. Even if the thread was a "circle jerk" (as you so delicately put it) so what? There aren't a dozen a day on a narrow subject that 90% of MV's users can't really participate in? 2) I think my crass-ness ( which i know isn't a word ) which i meant to be tongue-in-cheek was misinterpreted ... the point i was trying to make was a middle finger to the generic MV love-in thread, which i find as tedious as the threads on the BBS by "boringoldfart" or the rest of that ilk. There's a reason i post here more than there. I get tired of the anti-mv sentiment over there as much as i do the "MV circle-jerk" sentiment over here. I just want people to talk about scooters. See where i was trying to go? 3) This isn't a fight thread... i honestly couldn't care about patches and who has them - normally i would have just clicked past it but i'm in a bad mood today so i replied with a pissy response. Sorry. I do think it's funny they were given out as motivator to get people over here, though. A novel idea. cheers. |

Kevin wrote: I was just speculating so I can't speak for Jess as to why he did it. I wasn't suggesting, though, that he gave out patches to get people "over here". I was guessing that it was to get unregistered and registered lurkers that he already had to participate (you had to have 3 posts to get a patch, if I recall correctly). I guess it worked. I was also fascinated by the rich body of artwork represented in the embroidered patches of the scooter world, and wanted to explore that for myself. Looking back, I can't really say that the first patch was "art", but I created it, and I was proud of it nonetheless. I should point out that nobody ever called me on the fact that each free patch was also an advertisement for the site... |

Seriously, people. Stop the infighting...there are MORE than enough patches to go around!
To avoid obvious legal issues, I had to modify the original '05 patch design slightly. But hey, we've all been forwarded that one e-mail about how we only read the first and last letters of a word anyway, and that your brain still reads the word "correctly" even if the middle letters are jumbled up. Trust me, no one will ever know that you weren't an original '05 member, and that in reality you joined up two months ago. Now you too can rock the "original" MV patch design and be the envy of your friends, your enemies, even your frenemies! The best part is even if someone still notices the slight "misspelling", you can tell them it was a misprint and is worth even MORE than the regular ones. Don't wait! Send your payments to me now! Supplies aren't limited, but considering how in demand these bad boys are, the starting price will be set at $50 per patch. "Wod is for Wodern" t-shirts coming soon.
