Hello all!

This is my first post here! I hope many more may come Razz emoticon

I need some information regarding these two Vespas: the LXV and the PX.

I've been wanting to buy a Vespa for sometime, and I decided that I want to buy a new one from a store. The two Vespas I really liked are these, but I need some more information about them.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of the Vespa LXV in comparison to the PX?

Regarding their looks it's quite clear that they are completely different, thats why I want to know their strengths and weaknesses, regarding their engines, fuel consumption, construction, easiness on driving, etc etc etc

I also liked the Vespa PX Limited Edition. There still some for sale here in Portugal. Looks like it's a very limited sale worldwide

Well, I would like to thank you all for the help and attention!

I really need to made up my mind. I just can't wait to grab myself a nice Vespa!

Oh! By the way... one last question! Do you think a Vespa would suit a 24 year-old guy with 1.90 meters tall and 90 Kg? Laughing emoticon

Welcome to Modern Vespa!

The biggest difference for me would be how they are driven. The LXV is automatic, while the PX is a manual transmission. There have been a number of discussions on the pros of each here on this site, but the manual transmission is more work to be sure.

What this means to you rather depends. The manual might be more engaging and/or fun. It also will give you some security descending long hills, as the engine will work against the movement. This isn't so much the case with the automatics.

On the flip side, the automatics are easier to ride for a beginner... you just have to worry about throttle, and brakes (and of course checking mirrors, etc). They will also be more practical ASCENDING a hill, where you won't have to worry about rolling backwards if you accidentally popped into neutral or stalled. The automatic might also be nicer in stop and go traffic.

The LXV will likely be more efficient with gasoline, as it is a fancy new 4-stroke engine. The PX, however, will sacrifice a little fuel economy for increased pep as a 2-stroke (not that either will be slow )

Personally I like both their looks. But I think the PX style is more for me. And although I drive a "twisty" Vespa, I LOVE manual cars, so might be drawn to the PX myself in your situation.

I think the comfort of the seats will differ a lot depending on your size and such... some might prefer the high, straight saddle of the PX while others might prefer the lower, more forward seat of the LXV

Those are some starting thoughts, from someone who owns neither Razz emoticon

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! More are welcome Razz emoticon

Yeah, the PX seems a bit friendlier regarding driver sizes! But I don't know if I can get to try both motorcycles at the shop.

More info and pictures if possible would be great! Pictures with details of both the Vespas would be sooooo sweet!

Cheers!

I don't know a lot about the px, but from what I have read those are both very good, and you won't make a bad choice either way. As far as your size, there are a lot of tall men who ride vespas, so don't worry about that!

I agree that whatever choice you make is a win win situation. If you like to shift then the PX is a blast to ride but the twist and go LXV is so effortless that it definately has its advantages also.

Good luck on your future purchase, you won't regret owning a Vespa.

I am 6'1" and 190lbs and am comfortable on the LXV. However, after living with it for a while, I'll be doing the seat mod discussed on another MV thread. The mod raises the front of the seat to prevent you from sliding forward on hard braking. The LXV seat is great looking, so having it be comfortable too will be a nice bonus.

I have a blast on my PX and use it as much as my GTV. Shifting is easy once you learn and I like the look of the PX more than our moderns honestly but that's just my opinion. Like posters above, it's all about 'your need'. The LXV will be easy peasy and the PX will require a tad more with the shifting and maintenance (keeping cables greased - easy to do). Nice choice you have there - hard to find the PX models new here in the U.S.
