My wife has them on her bike and swears by them. I've also read articles saying they either: don't work or actually attract deer.

I'm thinking of putting a pair on my GTS. In the Fall here the deer are, um, preoccupied, and there are plenty of close calls. In the spring the does and fawns can also get pretty careless.

Hate to total my beloved Vespa. Not to mention OUCH!

I was thinking of putting them near the front, under the body by the legshield on either side of the wheel.

They don't work but make people feel better if they put them on.

I lost HD-riding friend to a deer-collision 10 years ago. The threat deer pose to lives and property are all too real. I try to avoid riding after sunset.

Sorry to hear about your friend.

My dad had a friend who just bought a new VW bus (years back) and he was driving up north through a forest, a dear ran out and he swerved to miss it and wrecked his new VW bus.
With that in mind, when I drive a car through an area like that, Im hitting anything that gets in front of me rather than try to miss and wreck into a tree.

Manny

On a scooter not sure how I would handle that.

Deer whistles are a waste of money. Deer have no trouble hearing even the quietest vehicle. It is their tendency to bolt in unpredictable directions that is the problem.

I've never heard a deer whistle. I always though it was an impossibility due to the shape of their lips....

On an unrelated note, last night I watched a guy make the northern lights 'dance' by whistling. Yup, true story, a really sharp whistle would make them move around. Pretty cool.

My theory: They might scare away a deer that's standing at the side of the road. A deer that's haulin' ass through the woods (maybe because some hunters are tracking it) isn't going to change course due to a sonic whistle. Now I ask, which deer is the one that's most likely to enter the road? 20 years ago, my dad had some on his truck. We were hauling down the fire lane back to our deer stands and we saw a deer haulin' ass across a field. He slowed down and she made it past us. The deer we didn't see following her didn't.

Deer whistles don't work. We found them laying on the side of the road, along with the busted grill and headlight.

Deer whistles
I knew a guy who accidently put them on backwards. He couldn't ride more than 5mph because of all the deer running toward him.javascript:emoticon('')

Deer are really dangerous in the cage let alone 2 wheels. Taconic pkway in NY. I was visiting my aunt a few yrs ago and took the road as it was a short cut to get to her house BIG mistake. went by a car that a deer had hit and the went on Hmmmmm maybe i shoulda taken the long road. Came around a bend and it was a 5 deer cluster fuck Thank god i hit the brakes and one bounced of the area above my right front wheel. The rest went over and around me Beautiful road but daytime only. I know people who have whistles and hope that it works. Key word HOPE. Move to oahu we don't have any deer

Best deer whistle is to slow down at night and keep your eyes peeled for the gleam in theirs!

Other day tho I rode past a fawn on the side of the road at 10AM! Stupid young'un didn't know enough to sleep late like his folks!
