I have already mounted a BMW power outlet on the left kneepad. The primary reason for that type of receptacle was I have a lot of BMW stuff leftover from my motorcycle days, including the battery tender.

My question is "Do I have to take the glove compartment assembly apart to run a power cable to the battery or is there a shortcut that someone has discovered previously.?"

take knee cover off, take horn cover off, you'll see there is a route there, take the floormat battery cover off and gently ease a fish wire up from the battery end thru the frame (or vice versa if easier) until it comes out at the horn cover area and drag the cable back down and connect, voila as they say

12V Power Outlet
Well, no problem getting the horn cover or the kneepad off. I ran a fishwire (coathanger) up from the battery compartment. Unfortunately, now it is hung up somewhere in the upper reaches of the front end. I can't see the wire.

Looks as if I will have to take it apart anyway . There goes Sunday

Getting power to an outlet on the knee cover
I just tapped into an unused powered plug under the left cover. It is for an optional alarm system. You just have to remember to unplug things when the scooter is off, as it is always getting power.

That unused power plug for the optional alarm also has a switched power wire. Use a multi-meter and poke around, turning the key on and off, and you'll find both a "always on" wire and one that is switched with the key. I tapped into the switched one when I put a power plug in my kneepad. I use it for GPS. If you're planning to run heated gloves or something, you'd best run a direct line from the battery with the appropriate wire size and fusing.

12V Power Outlet
The Black Flash is back together, up and running. I ended up taking the glove compartment down, using Jess's instructions (worked perfectly). I ran a direct fused wire from the battery to the outlet connector. Much cleaner and I feel better about the end result. I will also use this connector to hook up the Battery Tender during off periods.

Thanks for all the input and suggestions.

i use a fused opitmate battery tender lead from the battery to the toolbox and use a 12v cigarette socket with an optimate connector on the end to charge my phone and have the sat nav power lead thru the fuse block with the cig connector that also plugs i there for when i use the sat nav.
