Agree with ya' Jess on both the best and the worst part of the ride last year.

It would be an awesome trip to do OC or SF to Seattle and back over nine days.

Even it it had to be on a big bike.
I also rode from CA to Seattle with Jess and RitchJ. I believe we were doing about 300 to 350 miles per day and I thought that was plenty.

Another factor: the number of rest stops. I found it less tiring when I stopped every hour and a half (ie., at every half a tank of fuel) to stretch a few minutes. Finally, I was also very glad to have an Airhawk seat cushion atop the GTS seat. It let me go another 75 to 100 miles per day.

Just a quick comment here... I'm sure you don't mean this but you won't be "driving around Vancouver Island" in one day! It takes many hours to go from Victoria to the north end of the island!

Your revised route is still strenuous but is certainly better than the original. You will be going through some amazing country. If you are interested, check out my website which has pictures of many of the areas you'll be going through. Our road trip down the coast (from Vancouver) to Morro Bay was spectacular (see West Coast Road Trip).

This is my dream place to stay in Tofino. I would like to stay at The Wickaninnish Inn. The driving I was thinking about doing was over to Skooke (sp).

Interesting how they just sort of "flew" over El Toro!

This is fun!

And the revised trip looks much more do-able and fun. I've done almost the exact same trip in a car - starting from the SF Bay Area - and it's a really nice journey.

Have fun!!

Good to know and I will check it out when we are in the area. The signal fires every 20 mins and they draw a straight line as if I flew. It would be nice to have it send more frequently but in the end it is more for emergencies and less for on-line tracking. Well, I better get going, we need to be asleep in the next 20 mins so we can get up and leave between 3:30-4am. We should miss almost all of the heat in central CA by leaving this early.

We were able to do 450 miles in about 6 hours with breaks and breakfast at iHop along the way. We arrived shortly after 10am in Saramento and we have spent the afternoon shopping in the new downtown area.

I have been stupid enough to over schedule a vacation before....
not stopping inyellowstone just drove straight through cause we HAD to get to Jackson by nightfall HOW STUPID for me in hindsight.
we most likely drove by a dozen cool little bars where they sell greasy burgers ( exactly what we were looking for) and we had to settle for tourist trap sheite food.
MY ADVICE>>> SLOW DOWN AND WANDER enjoy the people and unexpected places that you find along the way.

if you want a thrill , then do THE CANNONBALL later on for your ya yas

We have been a visit out National Parks all of the time and have a annual pass. Tomorrow morning we will be doing 350 miles (Crater Lake National Park) and will be there by 10am or so. We do not want to see anymore of California and it is a tall state. We want to enjoy the NW and Canada and to get there you need to do lots of riding.

We wondered through store today and found ourselves on the river walk. Had a few beers and went in and out of shopes in old Sacramento. It has been many years since I have been to Sacramento and it will never be a tourist destination but it was more dun than I thought it would be.

In the end I am not sure I have done a very good job of explaining to you how much I am over seeing CA. I hope you get to go back and see Yellowstone. Last year we slowed down and stayed in West Yellowstone and rode snow mobilies into the park. You can't even imagine how awesome it is to see in the winter.

We just got back from Crater Lake and here are some of a pictures from about an hour ago. What a perfect day for a ride! We are in a little city called Chemult in Oregon and I am on my Verizon Wireless WANN. There are no bars but for some reason it is allowing me to upload the days photos and post on MV? We just ate a little meal in our room and we are getting ready for bed so we can spend a full day in Portland tomorrow. We are going to visit the Worlds biggest book store and the International Rose Garden.

Afterwards we are going to to go to the Saturday market and get some fresh fruit for lunch. Here are some photo's from today.

Thanks for sharing your pics! Keep posting. Very cool, looks like you are having a great time. I'm jealous.

I thought you were doing this on a GTS250. That doesn't look like a GTS250 to me?

Earlier in this thread we made some changes. We shortened the miles, and moved to our touring bike and not the GTS.

What an incredible place-definitely added to my wish list.

Looks like you two are having a spectabulous time. What a way to spend some quality face-time together.

Thanks for sharing and ride safe.
