Hello!

I have a red MP3 500 and I have been searching for some grips that are better with absorbing vibration. Ideally for me they would be a little thicker and a red color that matches my red MP3. Anyone have any ideas for me? If I could get thicker grips that helped with vibration and they only came in black that would be OK as well.

CheshireSoundLab,

How are those grips with vibration comapred to the originals? And are they thicker or the same diameter?

They're quite a bit thicker and they're great for vibration. The whole inside is a rubber sleeve which is just thicker in the parts that stick out. There are tons of grips out there though so browse some of the online cycle accessory shops as well as http://kuryakyn.com/index.asp before you make up your mind. If you DO get these grips you can throw away the superglue that comes with them and do a dry mount.

...and you can call me Palmer. Or CSL for short.

CSL,

I like the look of your Kuryakyn Universal Iso Grips. Is the vibration a lot less than the standard grips that come with the MP3? You said that since installing a "Throttle boss" that you have "started making more of a draw motion on acceleration". Can you explain what that means? Do you mean a smoother acceleration? Sorry for all the questions, but I don't want to spend the cash and find that I don't use the item...so 2 more questions. Do you use the "throttle boss" all the time or just at a speed when you are cursing? Lastly is the correct grip for the MP3 500 the Kuryakyn Iso Grips 7/8 Item # 497168?

Thanks for your help. Laughing emoticon

Try "Grip Puppies".

I had a pair on my MP3 250 and they made the grip better for my large hands. They also reduced vibration.

And they're really cheap.

The vibration is practically nil to me now and it feels like I actually have 9 Grand under my butt now instead of 9000 Lira, which is good. 'Cause I do. ...and the Lira is extinct anyway which I have no desire to be. Laughing emoticon

I've kind of been "drawing" front-to-back with the ball of my hand instead of twisting which my wrist seems to like better and in that sense, yes, in my case, smoother acceleration. That's an issue of personal interaction though so YMMV (Your Mileage [experience] May Vary).

Yes, it's a bit of cash but contact with the control interface of my machine that I spent a lot of money on precisely because I love machines that do exactly what they were designed to do and do so perfectly is valuable to me.

I can use it any or some-of-the time. It's far enough out so that it doesn't get in the way of a traditional twist which is called for sometimes. At my usual cruising speed (which is classified) I spread my hands out a bit more and the tab is right under the ball of my pinky joint. My usual cursing speed is not-so-well classified so if you wanna find that out just stick around a bit.... Laughing emoticon

They're 7/8 inch handlebars which I've been told is pretty much industry standard for scooters these days. You will need to "build up" the left-hand side w/electrical tape which is covered in the instructions but the right-hand side fits and holds snug for me or at least has for more than 1K miles now. Dry-mounted without the included superglue...

Hope this helps. Cheers!

Michael, what size did you buy for the 250?

I don't remember and, since they were so cheap, I didn't save a receipt. I'm pretty sure they were the small ones.

Just measure the diameter of the grips and get the appropriate size.

Can someone tell from this photo that the chrome end cap had been drilled through to accomodate the original large central screw?
Looks to me like it has been, or if not, it's just one of the small outside screw-heads.

Grip Puppies
You'll want the small size for the 250's. Excellent improvement on stock. No vibes, and helps on throttle hand cramps from long hauls. These puppies rock! Last a couple yrs. even in the Texas sun. 500's might be different dimensions. $8.00

Small size Grip Puppies to fit over OEM handles; large Grip Puppies over the small for extra padding!

That is what I did on my 400, small and then the so called goldwing size over them. Used windex and air compressor to put on, could not have taken more then 15 minutes to do both right and left grips. Only problem is that the crampbuster which I liked does not work well with the double puppy set-up.
