Modern Vespa

I told Jay I wanted a flat seat, sort of like the bench seats of the old CB series Hondas. He delivered exactly what I wanted, and it's ALOT more comfortable than the stock seat!

Very! It's flat, so I can move around on it if I want. I took the scoot on a 45 minute ride earlier, and I didn't feel like I needed a new butt!

Jay captured what I wanted.. a flat, pleated seat, like the old Honda CB750 I had..it has extra foam, and a gel pack..it's super comfy. Definitely NOT for shorter riders though.

As far as I know, this is a total one-off custom seat.

However... I do remember thinking that the GT seat was the ugliest thing imaginable
And then I sat on the LX seat, the GT seat and the GTS seat, in that order
Suddenly the GT seat became quite beautiful!

Well, sunshine...your opinion is duly noted. I might even agree with you, at least in so far as it DOESN'T look as nice as say, the saddle on a GTV..but it is INFINITELY more comfortable and suits my needs (I ride it, remember?). When it comes to things like seats, beds, my easy chair in front of the TV, comfort matters.

Thanks....I posted the pics, just to see if anyone else might be after a seat like that, and to give a plug for Pirate Upholstery. Honestly, I just gave Jay a description of what I wanted, used the CB750 seat as an example...he created that seat, just from what I told him..even if you don't personally LIKE this particular seat, it still says ALOT about Jay that he will create whatever the customer wants.

It's been about two months now that you've had your seat. Now that you've had the experience of going through the summer, I'd like to ask...

1.) Have you gone on rides longer than about an hour and a half? Afterward, so you still find the seat comfortable? No bottom soreness or discomfort?

2.) If you don't mind, how tall are you (inseam is okay), and how much do you weigh (within about ten pounds)? I too wish for a flat seat. I find myself wanting to sit right on the ridge and can't scoot back far enough for comfort. (I ask your physical size to match up with me. If you are vastly different, perhaps your style seat wouldn't work for me. I'm 6'3" tall with a 34" inseam and vary between 190 and 195 pounds normally.)

3.) After short runs, say ten minutes or so on the seat, are your legs/pants "sweaty"? Or, feel like they are "damp"? This would apply in the warmer weather.

4.) What was your approximate cost, within $50 or so? Feel free to PM if you don't want to state publicly. Did you return your OEM seat?

Thanks for providing an extended user's report. I gotta do something about my seat too. Okay for short jaunts, but painful for more than an hour or so. I'm wanting something like was on my Honda Dream.

(But, I somewhat agree with those who say the seat is "ugly". Not the whole seat necessarily, just the large, front "hump" that looks awful, and out of proportion with the rest of the bike. Wonder if Jay can do something about that?)

The seat is great, I've ridden the scooter for hours at a time, it never stops being comfortable. I'm 6'2, weigh about 260, inseam is also 34. It's perfect for me. It cost me right around $550 after I sent back the stock seat. It's FLAT...if it didn't have the "hump" as you call it, it would slope down at the front and I'd have to sit farther back to avoid sliding off the thing. To me, that would defeat the purpose of ordering a FLAT seat, that of being able to sit anywhere on it without discomfort. As far as it not fitting the lines of the scooter...I'm used to it, to me it blends in just fine. The stock seat might have been prettier (that's debatable) but as you know, it's damned uncomfortable.

I dunno ...i think it's exactly what you asked for - it TOTALLY looks like a 70's honda seat. I think the curve of the scooter, and the fact it sorta droops over the front is the only thing that detracts, ...but i still think it looks alright... and mega comfortable.

You basically asked him to take a weird seat shape that the GT/GTS has ( almost shaped like a big wide seat pan ), and turn it into the long, straight, ridged honda CB seat. It seems like a good compromise of what the bike required and what you asked for.

Thanks for the feedback. My first "real" motorcycle was also a Cn model, a CA77 '69 Honda Dream. Loved the seat on that thing. Long, straight, and flat! You can sit "anywhere" as your whim dictates. I telephoned Jay and he is going to send me a quote via e-mail tonight.

By the way, he said there isn't anything that he can do about the front bulbous nose. The shape of the frame is what dictates that shape. Maybe it can be broken up visually with a discrete application of different colored material? My bike is a Rosso Dragon GTS, like yours, but with a Vespa topcase on the back. That will have to be upholstered also in matching material. Maybe I should have him stitch in a little Italian flag or some other design on the top case back rest?
