I was on my way to a seminar at a hotel by LAX, I was crusing down the 105 in the car pool lane, #5 lane, traffic in the regular lanes was backed up and slow, a blue ninja type motorbike, was spliting traffic between the 4th & 3rd lanes. As some of you may do, I talk to myself sometimes while riding, I said to myself "he should slow down when splitting traffic, hes got less reaction time at that speed" and as I finished my sentence, his front wheel and a cars back bumper made contact (too be honest I dont know who was at fault , the car or the bike), the bike launched the guy into the #3 lane, shoulder and full face helmet first. I saw pieces of blue plastic fly in the air from the bike, all I could do was shake my head and keep going.

I got off at the next exit and called my wife and took the streets to the seminar.

My co-worker was running late and said the guy was sitting on the side of the freeway rubbing his head, he said the ambulance had just arrived.
Glad he didnt die.

Ive never seen anything like that before and dont want to again.

That sounds very disturbing!

2-wheeler accidents are a very sad thing--everyone who witnesses a serious one tends to get shaken

It's a lot different than a car collision, where mostly you just see the damage to the car
(and can infer that if the car is severely-damaged, then things don't look good for the humans who were inside)

Re: Motorcycle down
riding 2 wheels is dangerous enough...but to lane split is just making the odd worse.

it does not matter how skilled you are at riding as it is just exposing you to more vulnerabilities. crazy imo. 2000 lb vs. 350 lbs.

lane splitting at stupid speeds is nuts - worse, it sends the message that lane-splitting is dangerous at any speed. glad buddy is okay - dumb luck i guess

My friend and I got into a discussion about this very thing. An acquaintance was killed doing this very thing. Her whole point was it was legal (her husband does it all the time). I told her you can be legal all you want but he is still dead. Some people don't get that. They think because it is ALLOWED (big difference) that you can do it anytime anywhere and that mentality is what gets you into trouble.
Sorry for the rant!

Scooterist killed
Gordon Gee's, President of Ohio State, son-in-law just died after a scooter accident. His daughter was severely injured with multiple broken bones. The son-in-law, a doctor, was in the hospital for few days before succumbing.

In the paper here they talk about them hitting a SUV but the stories don't give any details of the accident.

I hate watching any accident, let alone one like that. Sorry you had to see that Manny.
I was told in MSF to never lane split at speeds higher than 40 MPH and that makes perfect sense to me.

Trouble with watching that is that there are hundreds of other scooter crash videos to see. This one was kind of funny, though....
