My GT has 600 miles on it and has a top speed of about 60mph. Maybe with a tailwind I can get to 62, but that is it. This is an 06 that was purchased "new" two months ago, and is due for its first service, so I was just wondering if there is something specific that I should ask them to check, or if this might be normal. I am 5'11" and 165lbs, so I doubt that my hugeness is the issue.

I do hear a bit of a rattle as I start out, but this is my first scooter so I have no idea if this is normal rattle or excessive rattle or what. From my searches here, excessive rattle would indicate worn rollers and that would explain the low top speed? Dunno. Thanks in advance

given it has only 600 miles, I would not think it is the rollers. Perhaps if it has been sitting w/ gas in the tank then the carburetor needs to be cleaned. However, if the carb was the problem I would think that you would also experience rough starting and idling. Regardless, tell the dealer to give it a thorough inspection when you take it for the first service. The scooter should be running near 75-85 indicated on the speedometer

I have a 07 GT that I bought new a couple of months ago. Since you're finishing breaking in the bike, I'd recommend you to do the 1st service at the dealer first. After that you can take the freeway and take the bike to the limits. the old oil has a lot of particles that could damage your bike. They will fine adjust everything and it will perform better. That is waht I felt on my GT after 1st service. Now it has ~1,800 mi and I went to 80mph on the speedometer. But it took a while. first time I tried top speed was 70mph. You're still breaking in the engine so keep running fast on the freeway and you will increase the preformance until it's limits.

Sounds like a tight engine to me which is normal, I ran my GT in for 1000kms going no faster than 60 -65 mph tops, when I reached the 1000kms and the first service I opened it up to the max and was surprised that around 70mph was my top speed as the engine was still tight, after around 1500kms it loosened up and now after 4500kms get an indicated 80mph regularly and it seems to have more in hand as I hav'nt felt the rev limiter cut in yet. Be patient the speed will come just look after the scoot in the first 1000 - 1500 kms and you'll see the benefits in the long run......Paul

A flyscreen will get you a couple more MPH, something to keep in mind for later down the road.

I'm 6' and 240lbs. My GTS has a short windscreen. WOT gets 84 mph real quick on the speedo (probably within a mile, 0-84). GPS says 79. I should think the GT would do 75/80 by the speedometer, and it probably will when broken in.

Good enough! Thanks for the replies. The dealer has it now, so will see what happens.

Won't know for a week. I am not going to be able to ride the scoot this week, so just gave it to them and told them that I will be back next week. I will update when I find out, but they did not seem to think it was all that big of a deal when I dropped it off.

So the shop says nothing is wrong - just a tight engine.
