Thanks awesome MV'ers for the great information about filling up w/o spilling! It worked like a charm..
My first fill up results were 72.5 MPG.

That's really reassuring to hear, since everyone is posting horrible gas mileage around here as of late. I have 2 S150s on the way myself, and have been a little dismayed at what folks are reporting on mileage.

How are you breaking the bike in? Riding it hard, or gently? Are you riding in lots of stop and go traffic, or do you have more open road? I'm just extremely curious as to what I might expect if our bikes EVER arrive Laughing emoticon .

Gentle ride, although I'm new to 2-wheels. I haven't gone over 45MPH. It's mostly been open road, not so much stop and go traffic. Also, I should point out that some of that was time spent practicing manuevers in the parking lot. So I'm hoping as the break-in happens it improves.

66 mpg (US) 78 mpg (Imperial, UK) at 600km. This is on a 125 LXV in stop-start London traffic, son not bad.

Hey, sorry for digging up an old post, but didn't want to start a new thread.

I'm looking for info on mileage for an S150. We are still in the break in period, I just passed 400 miles.
Well, my average mileage is only about 43mpg after 6 fillups, which seems pretty low to me. I live in Boise which is roughly 2700ft elevation, so I'm not sure if that has any impact. I'm only 165 lbs and ride mostly on flat roads. I wouldn't say that I ride the scooter hard, more average riding than anything.

So, just curious if this low mileage is something I should check out with my dealer? I also notice the scooter backfires fairly regularly when I roll off the throttle coming to a stop. I haven't read much about scooters backfiring so maybe this ties into the low mileage?

any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Something definitely doesn't sound right with your symptoms. The 72mph claimed in the original post were on the higher end of the spectrum of what I've heard for 150s, and the fact that it was in the break-in period only makes it that much more surprising.

Yours @ 43mpg should be higher, but I wouldn't be disappointed if you don't hit 70mpg. Solid 60's is very respectable. However, the backfiring you describe is not normal and should be checked out by your dealer if you're not comfortable with carburetor tuning yourself.

Masala,
thanks for the post. I'll probably take it in for a check, just to make sure. Yeah the first few fillups I kept having to recheck my math as the mpg didn't seem to be what I was expecting. But nope, it's really in the low 40's.

But, as I mentioned, I'll have it checked.

S150 Mileage Update
Hi all, sorry to bring up an old topic but I need advice.
We've got a 2009 S150 and we are still getting low mileage. Our average mileage is 43mpg. We just recently hit the 600 mile mark and had our first service. (yes, it's a 2009, and we bought it new in 2010)
The local shop couldn't find anything wrong and said that our mileage is probably due to the altitude we live at here in Boise, roughly 2700ft. But this same shop is selling our same Vespa with a big sticker saying 75mpg!!!
We are riding mostly around town (flat) and aren't thrashing the bike racing place to place. Just normal simple in town riding.
The only thing I can think of is sometimes I commute 9 miles each way to work and there are a few spots that I'm hitting 50-55mph for a few of those miles. But still, to be getting only in the 40's for mileage seems weak.
What am I not thinking of, or is there something else I should be checking out?

Any ideas or hints would be greatly appreciated. Super excited for the scooter weather.
