I like sound when I ride, I have a GL1800 that as a nice sound system, Radio/CD/iPod/Satellite etc. It nice riding around pleasant tunes playing. The GL is nice as it increase the volume with the revs.

I would like to know if any one put any speakers in the knee pads of a vespa. I looking at high quality professional looking set up. I have seen the boom box in the pet carrier and the glove box door. But sorry don't mean to offend, they look tacky to me. Want nice sounding quality not thump thump thump(age showing again).

Got the whole headset helmet mic/speaker going with teh GL but I wear a shorty style helmet and prefer sound around not in/by ear.

Thought the knee pads would look nice if professionally covered in matching seat fabric and nice set of desecrate speakers that look like they belong.?

Thoughts, pictures, willingness to take on project?

The left knee pad might be able to fit a speaker, but not the right one - too tight back there with the coolant tank.

2 options:
A) speaker Pods mounted to the windscreen/mirror stalks
B) 5" speakers in the glovebox door.

I've seen both and I like the pods. No links close at hand.

I have a friend who's motorcycle shop sells pod speakers and handlebar mounted gear. I'm sure this could be easily adapted.

I build speakers as a hobby and had been wondering whether I could build something like this inside a Vespa's front compartment. It need not be square as long as the volumes are the same.

This guy put some i-pod speakers in his ET4. I don't know about the GTV though but I'm doing something similar except just putting a battery operated amp in the glovebox.

i had a kenwood stereo system on my helix back in the 80's. It was actually made for the helix. Half the time i could hear it and the other half everybody else heard it Why don;t you use an ipod with ear buds. Just had walkman's back then and if i had had an ipod i wouldn't of put the kenwood system in. Just my humble opinion. Ipod will save you some money also. My helix back in 1986 cost $3000 new and the kenwood system $500

The Vespa ET speaker system is perfect, desecrate and very professional looking. I'm going to PM the guy and see how much he would charge for building me a set, I assume everyone as properly asked him the same.

I have a helmet with head set build in for my GL, but I prefer the speakers over the headset, you still get too hear great music while retaining all your senses. There is a HUGH difference in the riding experience having your ears plugged and ambient sounds on the speakers. Also depends on your helmet style, I prefer no helmet, but here in MA I have too wear one so I choose a shorty with zip in neck/speaker part. (before I get flamed, my life, my choice. If I get killed today, I would die a happy man, no regrets so far. But no peer pressure for those that like to wear full helmets and quote Toreador Pants, you have my respect).

The GL comes with the premium sound system fully integrated in to the back. The volume and tuning controls are on the handle bars as well as a mute button. But the sound volume changes with the revs of the engine so at highway speeds you can still hear the stereo, yet through town and at traffic lights you don't scare the locals. I'm really spoilt with my GL, but I love tooling around on the GTV. I just added GPS to the GTV and now looking for sound system. But I want it to look like its part of the scoot, the ET4 link (avik) fits that bill.

Each to there own, but I have seen some ugly bike mods in my time and I have to say fellow GL owners are the worst culprits. But I'm not here to judge as I say each too there own, but if some sees a great sound system around please let me know.

MODMAN no flaming here. i only wore a helmet when freeway driving. The wind really displaced the sound worse at faster speeds. I haven't seen the the gtv system but i'm assuming the speakers will be placed above the glove box on both sides. It was the same on the helix. Altho i don't think i had a glove box. Mine was made by kenwood exclusively for the helix. Helix even came with pop out places to put the speakers in. I just found that the sound displacement was worse than i had expected. Today i wear bang olufson wrap around your ear type headphones and they work perfect. Great sound clarity Oh and the helix had a wind screen which definitely helped. I guess i don't understand what you mean by retaining all your senses. I still listened to the music either by speakers or headphones. I don't see any differences between the two. It very well may work for you but in the end i was disappointed with the sound quality of my system. I had to crank it to hear it thereby losing sound quality. Kenwood is as good as the vespa system if not better since that is what they make-sound systems. I'm just sharing what i observed riding the scoot for a couple of years with the system in. Good luck

I do not know the technical side of it, but last summer here in town I saw a vespa that had the whole glove compartment panel drilled with many holes, probably 1/4 inch each. Just full of holes. The guy had some kind of sound system behind it, hidden inside the glove compartment, and he was just piping the sound from whatever loudspeakers he had inside the glove compartment through the holes, and the sound was relatively OK, I guess what I mean is that it did not sound too muffled.

A lot of motorcyclists I know use Unique Speakers. They wouldn't be hard to install - the speakers could go on your handlebars or even mirror stems and the amp could fit in the glovebox or pet carrier.
