I have checked the oil level in my rear hub, and am not sure if it is correct. The manual is not very clear about the dip stick indicator marks; so, depending on how you interpret it, the hub might be overfilled. I'm wondering if the dealer could have added fresh oil during the first service, without draining the old stuff. I suppose the only way to be 100% sure, would be to drain the hub and add the correct amount of oil.

At any rate, I'm curious to know what the possible consequences are from overfilling the hub. Recently, I've noticed what I guess is some sort of belt slippage when I first use the bike after it's been sitting for a while; under acceleration, the power to the rear wheel is jerky, and there is accompanying noise. This has me thinking that oil may be getting into the belt area.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Check this vis-a-vis the LX-150, which is exactly the same engine and transmission. Also check your manual, page 91.

This may shed a little light on the consequences: Problems caused by having too much hub oil?

Brian, thanks for your help. Actually, I tracked down your thread earlier in an effort to find some info; however, I didn't know how applicable your problem with the BV250 would be to a Leader 150 (e.g. I'm not leaking oil). In my original post, I didn't bother to mention that, like you, I also have some rear break issues that clear up after I've used the brakes a few times. I think I'll suck out some oil to lower the level to the minimum mark, and see if things sort themselves out.
