Modern Vespa

I bought a 400 today and s far love it, except it is a major pain getting the seat to open with the key remote. You hear it unlatch then unless i can get a grip on it and pull up on the seat within a second or so it re-latches.

I checked another 400 at the dealer and it does the same thing-normal?

Any help or suggestions would be great.

Someone on Ebay posted a strap that you could attach underneath the seat that would stick out a couple inches to make it easier to lift the seat. It should be easy to rig something yourself that would be similar.

I looked for the link but could not find it. Basically, it was a strap with a loop to stick above the back of the seat that would be riveted to the bottom of the seat.

The 250 is the same. I read about a simple mod in this forum that fixed it for me. I pulled the rubber bumpers (two of them) under the seat that are near the latch and reinserted them with a washer under each one. This gave the bumpers just enough height to keep the latch from re-latching before you grab it. Closing and latching is not effected.

simple easy to add a strap. I used an old dog leash because os the handle loop end. just cut to lenght and 2 samll wood screw about 3/4", postion where you want and screw it.

I use the two washer trick and love it. Remote open it and no rush to grab it.

My wife drives a VW New Beatle TDI and the trunk release does the same thing. I always thought it was a defect. When I got my 250 and saw it with the saddle I started to think that maybe it was by design. Is this common on EU made vehicles? I have never seen it on Japanese or American made vehicles I've driven.
