I am seriously considering this for next summer (and my girlfriend has given her approval! 8) )

I read the full article in the sunday newspaper - and the scenic photographs were awesome, and included a map of the route, the article does not show these, trust me they were A+.

Wow! Not only the "On Vespas" opton but also an "On Donkeys" option!!

Sounds like much more fun on a Vespa.

Nice easy days as far as distance covered...sounds like a nice opportunity to see the countryside. Slightly casual approach to licensing requirements it seems.

I guess the real question would be pricing...

There's also "Italy by Vespa" (Tuscany & Amalfi), which I'd like to do sometime.

this Italy by Vespa is ridiculously expensive!!!
if you flew via Ryan Air, checked into a charming Tuscany B&B (i've been to a fantastic one for a mere 60euro a night, overlooking the mountains and the sea, huge historic house, spanking white linens, amazing breaky etc 4 stars) then hired a Vespa, bought a map for 5 quid, you'd spend a fraction of it...

but it's great to see that it's being offered as a package!

has anyone gone on a Vespa trip recently?
i.e. fly to the place, then hire a Vespa and go discover the world?

You need to keep in mind that the prices are for a "tour". It includes meals, a cooking class, entrance into museums and other attractions, 6 days' use of a Vespa, fuel, etc.

Yes, if you know where you're going, and don't wish to be in a tour, you can save money and go on your own. You'll still have to pay your way through anything you wish to see (museums, etc.), and you'll pay for all your meals.

Please don't keep secrets! What is the name of this fabulous Tuscany B&B???

I far prefer do-it-myself touring, and hope to get to Tuscany next fall. I love first-hand recommendations, and what you've just described sounds perfect! Do tell!

really cannot recommend enough, i'll definitely go back... it was so close to Pisa airport (Easyjet flights were a BARGAIN), hired a car, drove for 10 minutes we were in the charming location, such a good spot as well, 15 minutes drive tops to lovely towns like Lucca, Pisa and also Florence (though I recommend the train to Florence as there's nowhere to park and it's chaos when you're there) and many more.... we tried random restaurants on the villages little roads that were amazing, and the view whilst driving is great too, really lovely place!
the family who runs it are very lovely as well, and it's very very clean!!

good luck! x

The Spain trip looks fairly reasonably priced.
I am going to Tuscany this fall. The "Vespa tour" was outrageously expensive so I have decided to just rent the scooter per day.
I found one place to rent in Siena, which I believe is the closest town to our villa. If anyone else has any other suggestions for vespa rental in the area, please pass them on.
thanks~
ps. I wanted to rent vintage but it costs 40 euros more per day than the modern! That must include a sag wagon with a mechanic. Razz emoticon

My wife and I just went to Bermuda. A Taiwanese scooter (no Vespa rentals) and days riding around the island. Not quite the same as touring Europe, but a blast for 4 days nonetheless.

Is this the rental place you are talking about? http://www.abc-rent.com/

Might also put out a reminder that a bunch of us are doing a Greek Islands Scooter Rally in May 2009. Just under 1050 Euro per person for 12 days.
