I have a 1980 P200E that was having some light problems. The blinkers and the headlight weren't working. I fixed the blinkers by changing out the flasher.

I still haven't gotten the headlight to work. I tried to find a new one, but all I found was a halogen which doesn't work either. I am wondering if it is the headlight or something else. anyone have any suggestions or where I can get a proper replacement bulb for it?

Is it one of the big sealed-beam HP4 style headlights? ( Where the bulb and the glass / reflector are all one big sealed unit )

Yes, it sure is. It was a GE 44xx with 3 prongs on the back. I went to an auto parts store in my area and found the closest light I could find. It was a different brand and was a halogen which I didn't think I could use but bought it anyway. I plugged it in and it still didn't work.

I can't find any really good/specific info on the headlights so I am not sure if my headlight is bad or the wiring is.

nah ... you gotta order a new unit from Scooterworks or Scooters oRiginali or something. You want the conversion unit, so you can replace bulbs in the future and not the entire big glass assembly.

So there is nothing comparable at the good ol' auto zone I can pick up on the way home from work? I wanna ride this week!

You must be talking about something like http://tinyurl.com/7vtv4?

I use the H5006. It's a standard bulb.

Use a dremel to shave the tabs off the back, or notch the bracket so it fits. Replacements are about $10 at autozone.

If you want a bolt-on solution, go with the kit Eric recommended.

If you want a nice Martha Stewart solution requiring a Dremel tool and a jasmine nectarine potpourri, feel free to hit up autozone and start hacking up a bulb. It's a good thing.

No, i kid. If you want to go that route, it will work fine.

Honestly, I only did it because I couldn't afford the $50 for the conversion kit.

When I had my P, I would buy the autozone head light, and cut the notches out of the head light ring, and bam it was done.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I'll probably just pick up a new one and do the mod in the future.

I did a little more digging around last night and here is what I've learned. I was thinking the fuse may be blown so I took out the fuse and of course nothing worked (blinkers, blue high beam light on the dash, blinker light on the dash). So I guess it isn't the fuse!

I did buy a halogen and plugged it in but it didn't fit the bracket so I figured it wouldn't work. I should have kept it in and started her up to see if the headlight would come on.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the headlight only works when the scoot is running while the brake light and blinkers work even when the engine is off.

it seriously depends on which stator and harness you run. Some P-series use the headlight off the battery, some use it regulated AC off the stator.

I got it on pretty easily without using a dremel. I changed out the screws for some a little longer and have a little gap in the housing but everything is fitting fine. Thanks again!
