Okay, all, I may have found my Vespa LXV in Siena Ivory (right in my own new backyard in Macomb, IL ... not far from Washington, IL)!

Anyhow, dealing with 'dealers' do you also make offers and not pay like you would with car dealers? What would one offer for a brand new LXV off the lot? Any suggestions? Any other advise? Thanks a ton!

It's worth asking what deal they can do you, but reading posts on here it seems that Vespa's are about as plentiful as rocking horse shit so don't expect a great discount, howevr try to get free extras out of them like helmet, gloves etc

There is usually no room to haggle. Maybe a free Helmet or T-Shirt added to the deal.

A few years ago there was haggle-room...if the dealer wasn't willing to drop the price, you could usually get them to throw in free gear, as mentioned above. From dealer stories I've heard recently, what little haggle room there was before is virtually non-existent. With gas prices what they are, scooters are in high demand, and most dealers aren't going to pass up charging every penny they can. It won't hurt to try bargaining with them, or at least trying to get a helmet or jacket thrown in, but don't be too surprised if walk away paying full retail price for your scoot.

That said, try not to worry about the money too much. The enjoyment you get out of riding a beauty like that Ivory LXV will far outlast the couple of dollars you might once have saved.

my .02 cents
That is a very tough to get scooter and honestly in a small market like yours if you want it GO GET IT. Your dealers may not see another for months.

This is the quote I got ... Does that sound reasonable?

Bike $5000 that's $200 off MSRP
Factory Delivery $240
Tax $350
Title $65

Plates $78
Doc Fee $150 waived with pre-orders

Total out the Door $5833

One more question, is it worth the extended 2 year factory warranty? You all are BAD for my purchasing desire ... oh how I covet this scoot!

We feed your obsession!
My Sienna Ivory was rather more expensive that that out the door in California. I'm envious of your $200 off the base price, your lower prep, your doc charges and your taxes. So run and buy that beautiful LXV before someone else does.
However, all that said, I got a very nice 3/4 helmet thrown in, a t-shirt, bottle of wine (this is wine country after all), cleaner, some in-store credit and a great relationship with my dealer for the long haul. And on top of all that, I have the world's most beautiful scooter. 236 miles and smiling all the way.

Many a time, we would go there after riding lessons (my instructor lives there, and now I do, too!). Our house is about two blocks of the square going west. Bought it last October, I'm originally from a little north of there, but went to Bradley. What about you?

In Springfield, Il now but I lived 2 blocks NE of the square on Central street. We still visit a few times a year as we have friends that live there plus our dentist is a good friend so we drive up for our check-ups.

vespa pricing
Here in Indiana, they dont deal much. They charge $300-800 over MSRP for freight, prep and maybe doc work. I got $150 off the inflated asking price at one dealer and no discount at the other. They dont feel the need to deal much. ive spent alot of time in 3 dealer showrooms this past month and none of the scooters sit there for very long. Your deal sounds very fair. Be advised that the 12 months free financing costs your dealer 2.5% of the purchase price. I was offered that if I paid the buy down fee.

free financing
Also be aware the free financing is not for the FIRST 12 months, it is for 12 months. Its basically 12 months same as cash. If you dont pay it off or refinance before it expires you are back charged interest fron day one at a very high rate. It was 24 percent at the loan I looked at. I was able to get 6.1% from my credit union because i gave them the title to a 2008 car that I own free and clear. So I got a car loan, they would finance the scooter at 8%.

Thanks for the advice, that was my plan. I have a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am that I own free and clear, that is smart dealings to refinance against the car to pay off the scoot. I will certainly keep that in mind!

burgman400, can you elaborate on the 'Buy Down' Fee? What is that? I'm not familiar.

That seems like the right price. I just bought the exact same one in Shelbyville IN and paid all in $5835. So only $2 more than what you were quoted. As hard as these things are to come by, I've yet to find a dealer willing to budge an inch on price. I felt lucky to just find a dealer that had what I wanted and I drove and hour and a half to get it.

Also, don't forget that Subway is running a promo where if you buy a new Vespa you get a $300 helmet mail ordered by your dealer.

Thanks for the tip, got my certificate in hand! Now, what color should I get? I mean I would have loved one to match, but it seems I'm stuck with only one of four color choices (and if I were gettin the Aviator Grey, it would at least be an easy choice) ... maybe the Blue/Light Blue?

Or maybe they will come out with a matching one with the 2009s and I can sell it to finance a matching one? That leads me to my next question, what would be the easiest to pass along?

For that scooter, probably no chance. It's a new color for the LXV. It's in high demand (it replaces that gray-brown they had in previous years). You may consider yourself lucky if you can get a free pair of gloves, lock or maybe a helmet out of them.

Where exactly are the details for that promotion on the site? I didn't see anything about the helmet (maybe I am just slow).

buy down fee- 12 months same as cash
The "buy down fee" is just like on a mortgage where you can pay 1,2 or maybe 3% (points) up front to "buy down" the interest to a lower rate. basicall its prepaid interest. The Vespa free financing is offered thru GE money bank and they dont do anything for free. Either the dealer has to pay the buy down fee or the customer does. Some dealers may pay it if they are making a good profit on the scooter. One of my dealers doesnt offer it. The other one will if the customer pays the fee. It was gonna cost me $137 to get free interest for a year. Thats $200 less than my bank loan at 6% but I actually plan to pay the scooter off in less than a year and I didnt want the hassle of having to refinance if I dont get it paid off in 12 months. For me if i didnt pay it off in 12 months there would be $1155 in additional interest on the "free" loan. Thats just for the first year. Interest would continue to accrue at 21%. SCARY DEAL

There is a clause in the free helmet offer that says "at participating dealers". The dealer where I bought both of our GTS' said that he was not participating in the promotion. I did take advantage of the 12 month/free interest since I can earn some interest on my money for 11 months before paying off the balance before the end of the 12 month interest free period. The G.E. 12 month interest free promotion costs the dealer 2%. (I asked the dealer what he had to pay and he told me)

Id be up front and frank with them, I wouldnt play games and I wouldnt expect them to play games either.

Thats prob why I bought my scooter from VTO, because Riverside Vespa made it seem like a high pressure sales, and I dont respond well to that, and VTO was no pressure at all, take my time, rolled out two GTS, a silver and a red one, and said take your time chosing a color, 30 minutes later I chose the Silver one.

That sucks because it doesn't really cost the dealer a penny as Piaggio reimburses them the cost of the helmet.

My dealer had never heard of the promo but checked it out and called me back and said "sure come on in and pick one out". A week later I had a new Copter helmet.

PHEW! Finally heard from my dealer, seems they will be receiving their LXV within the next two weeks, so I am that much closer to my VESPA.

He e-mailed and said he plans to call me today with the financing application (0% interest for one year) and get that all taken care of, and it does not seem as though I will be paying for buy down fee.

No extended warranty from them, but I think the discount on the doc fee (thanks to the deposit I will put down today) and the $200 of MSRP should easily pay for an extended factory warranty.

They are also AOK on the helmet offer from above, rockin!

I think Im going to take the coupon in and try to at least get them to give me a deal on a helmet (I was really wanting the Copter in midnight blue to match my new GTS). Maybe they will change their mind!
