Now that the "S" is out, was curious from previous ET and LX owners, if you'd ever consider getting an "s"?

Purely, From a styling point of view. (not factoring in that it doesn't have a rear rack or top case, or a 'real" glovebox)

It's funny, cause I think we're all more or less biased to the first vespa model we've ever had

I don't I'd ever go for an "S", would stick with getting another et4 or upgrading to a GT or bigger.

Survey says?

I had a 2001 ET4 with a topcase, sold it about 5 years ago to go vintage. I just got my S, and absolutely love it.. It handles much better than my ET did. And I just installed a rear rack, so hauling stuff isn't that tough..I can haul a lot more than I can on my vintage scoots.

I never thought I would want another automatic scoot, but I love the styling of the S, and that is what pulled me over to the Modern Vespa side.

I'm very happy with my S

i didn't get the S for a few reasons

1. the only one that they had was black... too dark. wanted to stick out and not blend in at night

2. the square light. i like the LX because it has the true circle headlight. it feels more Vespa to me.

3. the front panel with the speedo was held down by three screws... and you can see them... i like the LX how its all hidden... screws might rust and i think that it would look poopy.

4. it doesn't have a glove box. has a cup holder.

5. they didn't have the two seater seat... need the extra cushion for my passangers....

so i go and choose my silver LX150. love it. but guess what....

part of me WISHES i'd chosen the S...

i went to the dealership afterwords to buy a helmet and they had three white S150's.... with flyscreens, folding rear rack, and duel seats...

i'd rather have a cupholder than a glovebox... the square light is different...

man did i regret not waiting longer.... still, I LOVE MY SILVER LX150...

a vespa is a vespa is a vespa.... as long as it runs thats all that matters...

i bet the resale value of the S will be higher than the LX????

one thing is for sure... if i get a second scoot, i'm getting an orange S!!!

-cheers

My stepmom has an S, and I just dont feel the design as much. More plasticky or something. The square headlight doesnt feel right to me either.

I agree you might be biased with what you get first. I think I like the use of chrome on the LX and S more, but in general I have to say the styling of the ET is most appealing to me... maybe cause it looks the most like a wasp?

I'd happily ride an LX or S, and I'd think it was a gorgeous bike and I'd love it. But the ET still does it for me despite the age.

Re: ET & LX vs. S
The S is hot. Better looking than the LX. I'd prefer the no immobilizer and tray over glovebox.

But I have an ET and probably have a preference for it because back in 2000 when I first go into scooters I emailed Vespa to get a free calendar. It was all black and white photos of the ET set in scenes of beautiful young people on the beach like a Abercrombie and Fitch advert (but more women then boys). I thought the ET was so cool. To draw a modern/vintage analogy of my opinion, I feel like the ET2 is to the ET3 as the S is to the PK and the LX is to the PX.

After checking them both out thoroughly, I chose the classic style of the LX. However, if I ever got a second modern Vespa it would definitely be a white S.

I have only owned an ET2, tried the LX, PX, and, well ... ET's ROCK!
The design, and features are all complete. I read somewhere, that at the 96 ET launch in Rome the journos were wetting themselves with joy - sic (and actually the ET2 took some of the spotlight from the ET4!)

The S looks really supercool and from what I hear handles a lot better - Saw a couple of new sales ride away at my local vespa dealer last month. Total Envy. I get the impression the stock model is designed for the single rider (hence the sport theme? doh!) which is not always great.

If I will/want to get a new vespa next year (dam f**kin credit crunch!), I am musing over the LXV, but right now my ET2 is so cool and nippy, I think I would feel guilty, like betraying a close friend...

I like the LX and S but I'd rather have the LX. I need the glovebox and the square light just doesn't do it for me.

Personally, LX is too fluffy for me. The square headlight brings it back to Vespa doing something different. I think the whole point of the S is to chop up the fluffy lines of the LX. Getting back to the real small frame vespa. The vespa equilivant to a bobbed moto. Get rid of the bells and whistles. The more space made, one will invariably carry more stuff that is not needed. Bring it.

I love the ET's, but we now have a new S in the family. It feels much faster than my ET, and the handling is superb. It also has a nice throaty growl where my purrs. Styling wise I am torn between between the S and ET - I prefer the gorgeous curves on the ET, but love the hard sporty look of the S.

I would have considered the LX before I saw the S - just for handling and the differnce the larger tire makes. However, they lack the curves of the ET and in my mind they look about as sporty as an Oldsmobile compared to the S.

If I was to get a brand new bike, it would be the S for me without question.

if i was going to get another modern vespa i'd probably want to go bigger, so the LX or S would never replace my ET
