For the record... I feel kinda squirly about posting that vid at all. I do not know the source, as a riding bud sent it to me in an email. Last thing I ever want to do is make someone's tragedy a internet rubber-necking scene.
But, I think it's good to be reminded now and then about how fragile we are on two wheels... All things are relative, but keep in mind that is a relatively low speed crash. Be safe out there. |

My husband and I ALWAYS wear our helmets when we ride, even when everyone in the group we are riding with are not wearing them! I love my life, Im not going to risk it for the sake of looking "cool"! I bet if that guy hadnt been wearing his helmet his brains would be all over the pavement! |

wow, that's impressive.
hard to say who's at fault here, i've always been afraid of intersections where i have a green and no one is stopped on the cross street. watch where you're going, watch where THEY'RE going, and ride safe. |

If I showed that video to my wife, she'd NEVER let me get a scooter.
Sort of puts Toreador Pants and the full face vs. 3/4 helmet question to rest, doesn't it. For me anyway... Looks like the scooter rider saw the car coming (brake lights were lit), but just couldn't stop in time. Damn! Be careful out there everyone -- the cagers aren't paying attention at all... |

This one from England gets me every time...
Previous accident/breakdown on the shoulder, biker shows up in a few seconds. He/She is clipped from behind by a minivan driver who is not paying attention. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxLd1RJgOQs |

Did anyone find it odd that the emergency responders walked casually over to the guy in both cases?!?!

when I saw that a few months ago I almost did not get a scoot...
One of my coworkers showed me one of a guy getting squashed under the tires of a semi... |

Looks like in both cases, the drivers of the car were at fault. Kind of scares me to start riding my scooter. I drive for a living, and see just terrible drivers every day, blowing red lights, blowing stop signs, talkin g on the cell phone and drifting into other lanes or off the road. When were woring on the street, with all the safety precautions, people dont even slow down as they fly by

This, and a few other, scooter accident vids are continually passed around. Why? Do people enjoy the shock, the education ("See, riding scooters is dangerous!"), or just to bring other people down? Watching 911 flight crash videos over and over served as a way to rile up people and justify retaliation in a like fashion. But in this case there was just one person injured/probably died. How many car accidents were there today in your town? In mine there were many. The difference is that people aren't continually running videos of those crashes. While my heart goes out to the victim of the scooter accident, the vid is not indicative of there being a rash of similar occurrences or the frequency of such disasters. In the first video it really looks like the scooter was racing to beat the light. The angle he is taking is pretty dangerous for a left turn. Obviously the car is at fault, but the scooter driver was certainly not driving in a defensive manner. While he does apply the brakes, it isn't until a split second before impact. He should have been applying the brakes long before that, eh.

Have you ever seen a living person with half their face ground off! I have. That is worse than death. Full face, gloves and boots - as a minimum! Absolute minimum when you ride. I'm glad I had good gear on when I had my accident.

DR ABC Danger - what will kill you - they are already ### Response - are they moving? initial contact with support. perfect response - the british bobby was probably putting herself at greater risk of being### by running - no point hurting yourself trying to save someone else! In my training course they showed a pic of two motorcycles at a red light - one was looking ahead, the other to the right. Next pic - one looking to the right, the other flying through the air. Car ran a red and cleaned up the first. I always now double check - in my cage and on my bike! |

If the scooter was a car we would have seen a gnarly car/car crash not a horrible scooter/car crash. the car was dead to rights wrong. although watching the vid, it makes me want to zip my gear together at the waist. the jacket went way up on the body. i hope that the rider ended up being ok. |

I witnessed today in roseville a girl ridin a new r6 yam get T-boned by a bus. this was on Orlando ave. If she wwould not ave had a FF helmet she would have lost her face as she went face first into the asphalt. I estimate her speed as only 20 mph as she just came around a stoplight corner and was only just stating to accel, the bus pulled right out in front of her, she had 0 time to react. Classic vehical pulling in front of motorcycle (Hurt studies). Think she ended up with a broken collar bone, maybe elbow, and some cuts on her knee(minor).

No, you're not a sick person.
As humans we are naturally fascinated with death and danger, whether we want to admit it or not. Scary videos of what can happen. |
