Thought I'd share with everyone a little "scare" I had today after I returned home from a nice ride. I rode about 50 miles in 7 degree Celsius weather through some beautiful amish country. When I got home I left the scoot in the drive and went in to watch Ohio State. I glance out the window and I see oil on the ground under the scoot. I went out to check and sure enough there is oil dripping under the scoot onto the drive. Upon further inspection I saw oil all over the inside of the front fender and rear fender. Hmmm. Motor's near the back. I check the oil - perfect, rearend, - perfect, coolant (just in case) - perfect. Then I remember seeing a big puddle of oil at this little place I stopped for coffee... I thought I missed riding through it but guess I didn't. Good thing I didn't go down after riding through that stuff. Sooo, if you ever see fluids dripping from your scooter it might not be coming from the scoot but from something your rode through.

Oil drip?
I bet you were glad it was not yours. I found oil under my Gt this summer. Not much on the concrete, about a fist size stain. Checked the scoot, sure enough low on oil. After I topped off, phoned dealer and set up an appointment. They ended up replacing the rear housing gasket, "under warrantey".Glad that did not happen to you, Beale.

I remember reading your post about when that happened or someone else's about oil under their scooter and that's one of the first things that came to mind. Since the oil was dripping off the front I felt a little better knowing the engine was more in the back. I checked the motor area for leaks right away.. Thank goodness. Cleaned everything up with some orange de-greaser and went in the house and had a few beers...

![]() We did exactly the same today... out onwet & oily roads.. pulled up & the wife jumped off the back "Your scooter's pissing out oil" she said.. Had a good look - looked too black (my oil is nice & clean ) - then saw it was dripping from the stand, rear mudguard & under the front.. was just the horrible winter road coating (thank goodness).. |
