Yeah, but do you miss state income tax? Razz emoticon I sure don't! It's six of one, half a dozen of another really isn't it?
Very true! When I am closer to retirement I would probably rather have the income tax than having to stress about my property taxes forcing me out of my home.

That's why many recommend retiring in states other than Texas.

HIJACK!!!
Since a new photo has not been posted as of 48 hours, I'm hijacking the tag! A hint: This photo location was taken near where one on the scooter tag map between where the first 1/3 and 1/2 of tags were taken.

It was great seeing you, too. You did a terrific job helping out and I really enjoyed it all!

It was also really nice to get to meet Clark and Mary!

I kept thinking about giving another hint, but I thought it was too easy. So, here's another hint: Apparently, the little drive behind Puddin' is the second shortest state highway in Texas...

Mark! It was too funny to see you at the Salt Lick. I hope the wedding went well. Guess that's a pretty good excuse not to make the rally. Razz emoticon

It was so great that y'all pulled into the salt lick just after I arrived. Sort of seemed like it was some sort of salute to my not being able to attend. My family laughed as I drooled over all the cool scooters. Damn, I want one of those Tee shirts. I'll be at the next rally for sure!

Well I'm off all week and am hoping to go get the tag. Sadly, I'm not exactly sure where it is. Probably will leave in a little while and go to where I think it should be based on the evidence at hand...and hope for the best.

I know, I know . . . I've been out of touch lately. Been having some morale problems due to work, break-up with my partner, move to a different residence, etc. On top of that, today the landlord of the office building on West 6th where I work approached me to ask if I was the Vespa rider, then proceeded to tell me that the parking policy at the property prohibits motorcycles and scooters from parking in spots that would otherwise be used for cars. I told him that if I wasn't riding my scooter there, I'd be driving my car there and taking a parking spot, so what was the difference? He just glared at me and then said that it was private property and he sets the rules, and then went off on some diatribe about "Oh sure, Obama would love for all of us to be driving small vehicles, blah, blah, blah, . . . but these are my rules". What a jerk!

so, drive your car there... park... leave it there... and just pull your scooter in behind it every morning you get scooter parking, and he gets to have a car in the space. win/win

Did he propose an alternative parking space? Sorry for all your difficulties; I had a bad week myself (maybe not that bad...). Hope it gets better.

Yeah, his alternative parking space was to park it on a concrete pad next to one of the A/C units for the building, which would involve trying to hop a curb to get it up onto the concrete pad, and then if cars pulled into the 2 spots in front of that pad, I'd be blocked in there. I'll just have to find parking somewhere in the neighborhood, or go back to just driving my car.

Is it even legal from a city fire code perspective etc to park a motorized vehicle in such an area? Is this building used by general public such as retail?

It's a private office building, so they can decide and enforce their own parking rules. However, I'm just baffled by these places that decide it's okay for me to park my car in a spot, but not my scooter. Either way, I take up a parking spot, and they don't lose or gain anything. It's pure discrimination . . . that's all it is.

Okay . . . I'm off my soap-box now. Let's get back to the scooter tag.

Yeah that baffles me too. Either way you take up a space and one being a better choice for the environment. Sounds like news8austin or some other local news station needs to be informed of this. Shall we?

Shall we?
I wouldn't take it to them unless Steve would want that. I personally would get down their throats for making that decision but Steve might want to keep it on the down low.
