I have no idea why, but Vintage Red GTS's seem to be a lot rarer than the other colours... were they only released for a short time, or were they some kind of run that were later withdrawn due to a paint flaw or something?

Thanks 8)

I don't know why but all the GTS I have seen have been Silver and Black. No red ones. In person that is.

there are plenty of dragon red ones, at least in the bay area, but the vintage red (more of a cardinal or deeper red) is the color that is more rare in the US. It is a gorgeous color, imho.

The Vintage red GTS was a great story, originally every dealer was supposed to get 1 !! After we got them we all basically begged Piaggio to produce them in mass quantity. I believe the bigger dealers got up to an additional 10-15 and the smaller dealers 1-2.

We sold about 20 of them however they were only made for the 2007 model year and are indeed, relatively speaking, very rare.

If I could find a new 07 Vintage red GTS I would pay MSRP for it and keep it and I am a dealer !! Really hot scoot.

On another note I have something in the works with Piaggio USA right now that might come to pass that will really be smokin hot, I am working on it !!

Best,
SDG

Vintage Red
I was told by someone knowledgable that the vintage red was a limited run. Maybe like 3 or 4 hundred only.

I heard that Vespa Seattle sold only 8, but don't quote me on that.

Here is a similar thread from a while back:

My guess is:

You are jealous of my meat colored scooter OR you have a phobia of "old condiments".

Although your negative reaction may be correct since "Meat is Murder" (The Smiths).

the reason i was given that vintage red isn't seen much in the USA or indeed the UK is that the GTs was selling faster than expected in those markets, stocks were running low of the colours that were standard in those markets and a batch of vintage red GTs's that were destined for Spain where vintage red was a std colour had the destination of the production run changed from Spain to UK/USA to meet demand. this filled the gap in production, demand was met, the factory caught up with production of the usual colours and the vintage red went back to being a non UK/USA colour.

this came from my dealer friend, fellow club member and winner of Piaggio UK top sales award so i don't see any reason to disbelieve him

by the way, i have VINTAGE RED bought from my m8 the dealer, shrewd move methinks 8)

red pigment
red paint can chalk and get dull and foggy quick if not stayed on top of. I remember reading that red paint has different pigments than any other paint. maybe that is why it was not used as much???? Eddy

Thanks 8)
Smaller production run / quantity exported to North America... oh, and guys like me that repainted theirs to Desert Green Pearl because Vintage Red was getting way too common in Toronto.

So you would ride a Harley then

LOL! My buddy who has a PX150 went into a HD dealer last month to buy some mirrors he found that would fit his scoot. The sales girl put the hard sell on him to get a HD..."HDs are much cooler than scooters, don't you want a HD instead?" His reply a resounding, "NO!" He said she looked at him like he had brain damage...after all who would want to ride a scooter?

All i know is that when i bought my black I had a shot at the vintage red (it was sittin' right there!) and have pangs of regret! Just a few, but nonetheless now and again I think that I could have been very happy with that color!

Still...when my ride is clean and polished, black is very Fonzi.

Dragon Red is too bright for him. Interestingly, red is a color that supposedly stresses beardies, however Rudy looks pretty chill here.
