I just sold my Honda Ruckus - loved it but it was sooo slow! I have been looking to upgrade to a 125 or 150cc scoot. A guy here in town is selling an 09 Fly 150 and I am seriously considering picking it up.

I don't really know anything about Piaggio other then they are made by Vespa - is that right?

I understand that not many people will likely have the 09 Fly 150 so I am looking for advice in general about the Piaggio brand and anyone who owns/has owned the 08 and previous Fly125 or 150's.

How is the build quality, reliability, parts availability, resale value, etc.

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!

I can't speak exactly to the Fly, but yes, they are the same company. Piaggio actually makes Vespa. I just bought a Vespa LX150 (pretty sure based on spec that it's the same engine as the Fly 150 but I could be wrong) and it has plenty of get up and go for me. If anything else, see if the guy will let you test drive the thing--it never hurts to ask!

Safe scootering!

fly 150 , lx150 and S150 use the same engine.

Some folks state that the fly is assembled in China and that it is a problem. I can't state either item as fact and frankly, doubt that a China-assembled scooter designed by the same manufacturer would be worse than an Italian-assembled scooter with the same mechanicals.

I like the look of the fly better than the other two, but couldn't get my dealer to order one.

The Fly 150 is a fine scooter! You'll hear a lot made of the fact that it is assembled in China. However, I have yet to hear from dealers that they have had any increase in issues with the Fly compared to the earlier versions assembled in Italy. Both have proven to be reliable and fun to ride!

I had the choice last week at the dealership:

Blue '08 like the one you have pictured

OR

White '09

I really really wanted the Blue and couldn't bring myself to accept the white. This is historic for me since i really am not aesthetically minded, really.

Anywho ... I absolutely love my Fly 150. I have only had it a week and already have 180 miles on it.

I took the MSF course on a ruckus and I agree, it's a little slow. Now that I've had something faster to compare it to. Was good to learn on, though.

I have an '06 Fly 150, and never had any problems. Although I love the Vespa look I opted for a modern style in the Piaggio Fly.

A friend has a blue '07, I've gone up to 68 mph- red ones are the fastest

Fly150 is the brand
Vespa is the brand
Piaggio is the company

is like saying ruckus makes honda

Piaggio owns Vespa, Derbi, Moto Guzzi, Aprilia and scoots under its own name.(piaggio)

Fly body is made in China by a Piaggio controlled company.
Has same drive train as Vespa LX150 and Derbi Boulevard

you are welcome

as to your question...

"How is the build quality, reliability, parts availability, resale value, etc. "

Last year i had a 2007 Fly50 and it was a great bike. (2006 was last Fly model made in europe) build quality was excellent.
parts are as available as they are for the Vespa line (as stated its basically a Vespa LX150 in a Fly body)
The 2009 models look to be the same excellent build quality.

But as you found with your Ruck..the Fly50 was too darn slow for me and thus is why i now have the Derbi Boulevard 150 and am loving it.

so nice zooming up them hills instead of chugging slowly up and now i am *traffic* instead of a hindrance to the traffic flow.

I have one (2006) and it is hands down the best scooter I have ever driven...of coarse it is also the only one I have ever driven... so I guess that part of my opinion doesn't carry much weight! I have no complaints. It has almost 12,000 km on it and to me it's the perfect mix of quality, power and affordability. I don't know anything about resale values, but I think because it is so closely related to the vespas there are a lot of parts that will be interchangeable. I had a slow leak in my back tire, so I went to get a new one (it was nearing the end of it's tread-life anyway) but the dealer didn't have the same tire in stock (I couldn't wait for it to be shipped) so he put on a tire that comes with the GTS instead.
