Bluejeep,
There seems to be some connection between those originally attracted to MG Sport cars and later riding Vespas. I got hooked on British Sports Cars in College. I had a MG for the last two years in school, then drove a MG Midget for four years after getting out of the Military. Years later, I had to have the classic Vespa and bought a GTS300 Super. Perhaps it is the attraction to classic vehicles or the image of them. Bob Copeland Minnesota ![]() My 1974 MG Midget, I was over the moon thinking I was cool driving that Midget.
![]() Perhaps the same today - cool on the Vespa

Bluejeep,
I do not have a photo. My first was also the MG Roadster 1964. I bought it from a friend who was graduating and leaving town. My father was a career service manager, first with Chrysler then Ford. When I brought the MG home, he thought I was crazy. "Not American made". He took the MG to work. I went down to the dealership, his technicians had the whole car taken apart - engine out - the works. He said one of the cylinders had low compression. I admit, after he put the Roadster back together, I never had a mechanical problem. I did freeze the battery because it was parked outside at school. Massive below zero Winter - something the Brits had not anticipated. My Dad also said the Roadster had a "nightmare" electrical system. Something related to using three different metals in the wiring system. That is my MG story. Bob Copeland

Certainly looks like it, although that photo is definitely dated because they've had concrete bollards in front of it to prevent vehicular ingress for.....many many years now.

Yep, it was a windy chilly ride up and back. I'll probably get a few more commutes in before packing it up and if we have a mild bit over the winter well then I may go for it.
Planning on lots of miles in the gti and few on the gts. |

rixcafe,
Loved those British Sportscars. I think the Triumph was actually faster than the MGs. I ended up starting with MG because I bought if from a friend graduating a head of me in college. When I got it home, my Dad (Career Automotive Service Manager Ford/Chrysler) thought I was nuts. It was all about being cool. I would drive my 1963 MG Convertible Roadster to campus with the top down in the Winter with a huge scarf streaming back in the wind wearing my eight panel Irish Cap. It was all about image. ![]() I still wear the cap today.
