Everyone else can bite me as this is interesting......,Venom?....oh brother....Some just don't enjoy having their faces rubbed in money & then sitting around like vanilla pudding.
No one "needs" stuff like this....They "want" it.
Big difference....

Not really hating...Just trying to figure where the tide turned & everyone decided they should live like celebrities & the uber hip.....I fall victim to a Mid Century modern doodad every once in awhile.....Then my dog pees on it.

I don't even know how to respond to stuff like this.....but I enjoy a little argument/education as it keeps me on my toes....
Sorry....But of course there had to be a touching story behind it because there always is.
I have one too but that doesn't define who I am or what I decide to do...

Sorry for the dogpile....... we are obviously on two different sides of the fence.
And you have a view of what is important that is way different to mine & others...Probably our age difference.
Just know......You are not what you own...& the things you own don't necessarily define who you are.

I have only been doing what you would call "well" for the last 4 years half way into my life.
And it isn't really "better" than before per se..... just every year or so I actually spend $60.00 on some hip sweatshirt that I cant fit in....And I save like a madman so I don't sweat the hard times as much.
Compared to what damage I could have done when I was a "musician" for so many years...(Read "broke")

Oh well....enjoy your stuff on credit....just remember that you probably have quite a few years left on this shitty rock.
Stylish things are just that........Things.
And sometimes they actually help reinforce a negative image of who you are rather than someone who enjoys nice stuff....

Anyway...That helmet is a very nice period piece & really would look sweet on an SS but not worth $800.00.....Enjoy it.
Annnnnnnnd as long as you are blowing cash...Go get that Arai Corsair that you talked about...
That is something we can agree upon for sure....THAT is money well spent.
Catch you at the next Arcade Fire show.....

(To others...If you don't like it don't read it.)

I know that objects do not define a person. You are quite right there. BUT, a person can enjoy quality. I like hand made pieces...and I don't mind paying more for them. I like to have things that require a little more thought to posess than just walking into my local store and picking it up. I do these things for ME, not to impress others. If I wanted to impress others, wouldn't I have kept my 993 RUF Carrera? Or my Paul Smart Ducati? I think so. A Vespa only catches me shit. People yelling "Faggot!" and trying to scare you with their car horn, etc. It's not exactly the epitome of "cool kid". Either way, this post started off as a photo thread, and not we are discussing ostentatious over-consumption. I have the Helmet, and I have the scoot....end of story. And as you said, "if you don't like it, don't read it!" Either way, I'm not upset, I just don't EVER badger other peoples purchases, so I don't get it why people feel the need to do it to me. Thanks for your feedback. Let's keep it simple, I'll spend my money, and you spend (or save) yours. There, now we can be friends!

The angel sitting on my other shoulder agrees with you too to some extent. Just two different points of view. I am similar to Adam and when I want something (that I can afford) I usually end up buying it. It is somewhat tempered with the Victorian upbringing instilled in me by my parents.

I just thought the thread was unusually forthright. Most MV opinions are either that's cool or that sucks.

Thanks dude. I know that if I were to meet ANY and every one of you in person, we would get along swimmingly! BUT, the veil of the Vbb forums always make people (who are prone to it) bite each others' heads off! I have been the butt of this kind of stuff for years with all of my vehicles, due, mainly to my age. I just wanted to show everyone a cool helmet, and I am thus labeled by some, automatically, the bain of their non-consumerist existence. We are all consumers...it's our society...If you want to talk about how I revolt against this....I do not own a TV (Sold it a few months back, and loving every minute of NOT having it) and I do not own a car. I think I'm doin' my part to screw the system! LOL.

Just discussing things that is all.
I actually appreciate Adams response to it all....

Sorry if I don't feel like jumping into the bowl of boring pretentious pudding with 2 word responses.

Welcome to the internet.
Slow down a bit though Adam....This is how I talk......in person, on the internet...my name really is Thom......I asked...& You are letting me know why you choose to do things or consume the way you do.

Not trying too make you a butt of anything (just a teeny bit)...Don't forget..... I ride stupid mopeds too...And chose to grow the gayest mustache known to man.

I like the fact that you rose to it & gave me your view....which isnt my cup of tea....but at least you threw it out there & I can respect that.

To all the +1's?
That is just too boring & easy.

I have a big mouth...but sometimes that is how people get to know people.....I mean....Really know people as opposed to just thinking they know them or a group.

Just mixing it up & getting people to talk...that is all.

Moustache? PROVE IT! I want pics! Heehee. Seriously though...your moustache takes time to cultivate and thus you respect it and appreciate it. Think of my helmet and scoot, and other belongings as moustaches...I saved up, I worked on them, and I appreciate them for what they are. Not the best analogy...but hell, I've had a crazy stache too! Hahaha

Adam, that's a nice looking helmet and an even better looking scooter that you just purchased. There will always be those who are jealous of what someone else can afford to buy. Ignore them and enjoy your purchases and your life.

The helmet is sweet. I like the leather padding and the dino mohawk looking bulge. Even the box is pleasing. Sure its expensive but what are you gonna do people? If you want it thats what it is gonna cost.

And yea the Porsche on the blog is nice but what I really like is the Samson bike. You take that racing in Japan? You still have it?

I don't want to seem like a latecomer to the "dog pile," as I've been following this thread from the beginning but have just restrained myself from posting. I must admit that my *very* first thought when seeing the pictures was, "Nice camera!"

However, you can say that the thread started off as a photo thread and wasn't meant to discuss ostentatious over-consumption, but you can't really blame the fact that it has turned into that by people who have done a little digging into your blog.

The whole tone and perceived purpose of this thread changed for me when I read this post of yours:
Quote:
$5000 camera? where? LOL...I wish it were $5000! it was more like $5000 for the body, $3500 for the lens, $250 for the M Grip, and $150 for the strap...then extra batteries at $125/ea, and memory cards, filters, OMG...i'm retarded! I would be rich if I were blind! No scoot, no helmet, no camera...life would be easy.
You've mentioned that you always seem to get shots taken at you on forums... Perhaps if you exercised a little more discretion and just stop typing at,

"$5000 camera? I wish..."

Some will understand that you are still flaunting your conspicuous consumption while others won't. Either way, I'm willing to bet you'll be better off for it (online).

That's all.... BTW - nice helmet. I'd have gone with the white, but what ya' like is what ya' like.

I believe that any 3 snap visor will fit the helmet they're pretty universal. I have the same snaps on my Z1R Jimmy Retro helmet (was a little cheaper) but definitely not as nice of a helmet as Adam got.

Part of the problem (to my eyes) is the dichotomy of the helmet. It is a work of art and priced accordingly. But, as a protective device it is intrinsically flawed.
It would be analogous to Corazzo making a goatskin riding jacket for $1,500. Beautiful and striking, perhaps, but inadequate when it counts.

Harvey

Jealous?....yeah sure....
If I am dropping that much for a helmet it will be some crazy Arai.

That way when I crash...the only thing left will be my head...& I can freeze it like Disney or something.

Actually it would have been way more hipster cred (and about as safe) if he would have picked up an old Bell 3/4 face up off of ebay for under $40.00

I use one of these:

http://www.amazon.com/Motorcycle-Helmet-Deluxe-Flip-MXL/dp/B0018QDLR4/ref=pd_sbs_sg_2

This one works well for me, though there is still some wind that leaks in through the gaps it was a big improvement at 50+ mph. I think a 3/4 helmet with a built-in visor would function better though and will be looking to go that route when time comes to get a new helmet.

The helmets at Revolution Moto are a variety of different patterns. One of them has large black polka dots on white (or the other way around, I don't remember). They are distinctive!

However, having used an open face helmet for a bit and getting tired of being hit in the face by bugs, a visor would be absolutely necessary.

What an interesting thread. It's a fact of life that some people are poor, and others have so much money that they don't know how many homes they own.

Some people spend $800 without flinching on dinner and a good bottle of wine. Others could only dream of ever having $800 in their hands at one time.

What difference does it make how much money Helmet Guy has? If he gets his kicks out of nice toys, so be it.

The only thing that bothered me was the statement about being blind solving his problems..... I'll bet though, that if he got his wish, he'd spend some serious money on the finest cane he could find and get a diamond encrusted collar for his guide dog.

Oh BTW, that is one really nice helmet!

I would buy that helmet in a second if they had them here in Canada. Atelier Rudy said they would pay for the shipping if I bought one but for that price I'd have to try it on. I love the one with white and red stripes. Don't listen to the naysayers. Comparing these helmets to just about any other is like comparing Ferregamo's to Aldo... just does not compute.
