I was feeling around the saddle latch lock and must have tripped something...Now, though the key works, it doesn't open the sadde seat compartment lock...When I press the key button, it makes the opening sound, but then makes another sound like it may be locking it again...

I was feeling for a manual release..Well, now I know there isn't one, but there is a little tab like thing, I felt, which I must have changed the dynamics of the locking gizmo....Well, now I've done it.
It won't budge. It locked shut.

What did I do? How can I fix it? I really hope you techno-wizards can help me out.

Thanks.....jacq

Hmmm...having trouble trying to depict what you're saying happened, but here are some tricks I've noticed with the seat lock.

1. Try pressing hard down on the back of the seat and then pressing the unlock button while doing this
2. Try pulling up on the back of the seat while pressing the unlock button
3. Turn the bike on, get on the seat, then get off and press unlock
4. Start up the bike and while its running, get off(with tilt on!) and press the unlock button while its in the ignition.

If none of these work, you most likely have to get the key reset(see manual and other posts on here about resetting the key)

Hope that helps. The seat I have noticed on the 250 and the 500 both have a sort of safety feature where sometimes the lock will make a double sound as you describe but the second one fails to unlock the seat. Most the times, applying pressure to the seat sensor and then releasing will 'reset' this feature. I have absolutely know idea why this happens or why this works, but it does.

Darn, none of that worked...Look at the pic.....Does any of that look normal...???? Rats...

I put a mirror and extra light down there and took a picture.

Maybe I changed the position of the RED tab thingy. It points at the medal post that's attached to the seat... I'm wondering if these 2 talk to one another and I interrupted their ability to communicate.....hmmm.

help.................Jacq

This is the mirror image of the locking area...

Fix Saddle/Seat Latch
Okay...I got it....Check out the picture...It looks like the RED thingy(designer talk and mechanic's nightmare) should be turned the other way, but, I couldn't get it to do that....Should I keep trying? It does work now....

I temporarily screwed up the opening mechanism by unlatching the medal wire that pulls the latch forward when the bottom is pushed. All of this you can't see unless you put a mirror and light to it.

The BONUS is...I unexpectedly discovered a way to get into the compartment and unlatch the saddle manually....Tough, but do-able.

Again, should I try to turn the RED thingy around or let well enough alone?

Geezz...jacq................cheers

Hi Jacq,
Looks like you pulled the red sleeve off of the silver peg next to it. Here is a picture of mine. Red sleeve over silver peg which I believe is slotted. Good luck!

I'm just really impressed that you were able to take a pic with a mirror and an extra light . Glad you got it fixed.

Hmm...I did find out what happened. I did find a way to get into the compartment without a key...I did find the manual latch and I did fix it...sort of ... with stickyfrog straighting me out...sooo...maybe you're right.... Had 1 negative and 4 positives, 5 positves if you count me swallowing my pride and asking for help after I accidently tripped the toggle.

I do like learning new things... Logically, it makes sense to keep trying...even if feels spooky..

Thanks....dirt....Okay...I'll go to the store and get the stuff...

Cheers....jacq

My pull cable disconnected too. I think a Wally World bag snagged on it and pulled it off, but that is just a guess. I did remember a bag snagging just before I noticed it would not open anymore.

Reviving this old thread 10+ years later!

My 2008 MP3 250 seat opener was inoperable with the key when I bought it back in November 2020.

I could reach in through the trunk and unlatch it that way. Been doing this with no complaints! Using a cloned key from AF1 racing (no button) and leaving my original slave at home anyway since the seat opener doesn't work.

Recently something happened where the seat latch was in the locked position when I tried close the seat, so it wouldn't latch or lock! I pretty quickly figured out a way to unlock it manually by fiddling with the latch in through the trunk. Back to business as usual opening my seat manually.

Until last night! Seat lock is in the locked position again, while the seat is unlocked, and can't get it to open, can't figure out what I did before to open it to latch the seat closed.

Maybe it's time to fix it properly with the key switch and all. I do have a spare seat cable if need be- a mechanic at the shop I bought the MP3 at convinced me I may need a new cable to fix it and I ponied up $25 to AF1 racing for it, but never brought it back to the shop because opening the seat manually never bothered me.

The pictures in this thread will likely help! Just posting to let everyone know how useful a resource this place still is!

Also if anyone does want to PM me tips incase I lock myself out that would be much appreciated! I realize I've kinda lucked out having the lock stuck when the seat is opened and not closed! I do worry a little bit riding the bike putting weight on the closed latch of the lock, maybe I've made it worse and don't know yet... anyway thanks for reading this far
