I've got the MSRP for the 300 at $6199, with potential availablility for 1st quarter '09.. Much less than what I thought it would be! Thought I'd share the good news

Ours is only £150 more than the 250 GTS. What's that... about $270 more?

Whoah. As far as "Vespanomics" is concerned, that's actually a pretty nice price. I for one am surprised it isn't more.

not bad. Dunno if I'd get it because to do so I'd have to sell my 200, and I have an affinity for that bike.

$6199? Wow, I was just at a dealer yesterday that was asking that (actually maybe even $6299!!) for the 250 supers that are already here. I'd be a little peeved if I coughed up the premium for the current 250 super.

I don't know if the model will be equipped differently for the US, but from the pictures on European sites, the 300 Super doesn't come with a rack. The 250 does. Once the 300's get here there will be a run on racks that fit it. Add a couple of hundred $ to your estimate if you need a rack.

Drew, question for you... the rev limiter/governor on the 250's kicks around 87mph indicated. Do you know if it's the same on the 300?

Nope!

My guess would it's "rack-less". Personally, if the function of a rack were that important to me, I wouldn't be looking at the 300 and go with the 250. It's cheaper, comes with a rack and isn't much "slower". Now, if I wanted the quickest Vespa (stock and off-the-floor) and was dying for those 2-tone wheels (I'm not dying, but aching a little), I'd live with the lack-o-rack and twist the hell out of the 300 throttle at every light.

In the end, I'm still lovin' my GTS and am not moved to kick it out the door for a 300. Having a motorcycle gets me over the "wish my Vespa were faster" feeling pretty quickly and appreciate the Vespa for what it is.

How much for just the engine? I love the vents on the side and the black speedo face, I dont like the horn cover nor the lack of back rack.

Was at the local Vespa shop today, they said they are getting some in come Janruary-ish

White and black. $6199. Just like the 250 Super but with the 300 engine.

My bet is "no". If they keep it, that'll just add to the confusion and complicate things, especially for new customers.

Those of you who've got a 250 Super already could have unintended "collector editions".

Well, Rex, the rev limiter is not something that is usually advertised, rather, one must find out for themselves. The top speed reached when the rev limiter hits depends on the gearing, from the variator to the final drive to the rear wheel size. If they use the same variator and final drive as the 250 and the max RPM is the same, then it will hit the limiter at the same speed, although it will get there more quickly, and you will likely hit it a heck of a lot more often..

They'll almost certainly gear it differently, though. I recently found out that the BV500 (as I told you, I rode one to the meeting) hits the rev limiter at 108 mph indicated. So, either the 500 engine revs much higher than the 250, or, more likely, the gearing is taller.

Is the "regular" BV500 going to be offered in '09 or are they all "tourers" or "cruisers"?

Hey, great seeing ya by the way. It was a spur of the moment ride we did from Wrightwood to Palm Springs. HOT! 113 degrees according to Crazy and Wicked's GTS temp guage.

those things cannot be trusted.... they are about as accurate as the speedo

Thanks. Just checked Sept 28's weather report in Indian Wells, CA. It was 105 degrees on that day.

Either way it was really hot! I started the day with the BV 500 ride into town followed immediately by 18 holes of desert golf! After all that heat, I spent most of the time at the pool!!!
