I recently purchased a 2006 Vespa LX 150 demo that had slight damage. At the time I was happy to save some money, but I'm beginning to rethink the purchase.
Yesterday, my first day on the Vespa, I scooted the four miles to work with little problem, though I did notice the engine putter a bit upon starting. On the way home I had A LOT of trouble getting the scooter started, and even after it had started it puttered out after a few moments. Finally it started purring, on the fifth attempt, and I was able to ride about a half mile before the engine cut off while stopped at a light. At this point I noticed gas leaking out of the tailpipe and what I think was the carb (small black hole just above kick start).
Has anyone else had similar experiences or know what the problem may be? I was guessing that the engine was flooded, but wasn't sure how that would've happened.
The bike is also still under warranty, though the local Vespa dealer is charging $80 an hour for a diagnostic test. Does that sound reasonable?
Thanks for the help!
