More on the "riding in a suit" theme.

When I first bought my GTS without a windscreen, my tie stayed put while riding. Soon thereafter I installed a short windscreen and my tie started blowing around right and left while riding over 25 mph. I just installed a tall windscreen for the chilly weather (I plan to cut it down, but right now it is absurdly tall!!). Now at that speed and higher my tie literally rises up as though an invisible hand is grabbing it and it sometimes ends up in my face!!

I think the tall winscreen creates a low pressure area right in front of the driver's body, and it sucks the tie right into your field of vision!!

I guess I need to remember to tuck the tie into my shirt until the weather gets colder and I find a coat. Or I could go nerd-retro and use a tie tack (not). Anyone else with tie/windscreen issues? Any insights?

The obvious answer is to get a job that doesn't require a tie. That and wear a jacket in case you fall down go boom.

In japan the office workers wear their sport coats backwards. Keeps the tie in place and the front of your office clothes clean.

Does the tie increase the wobble?

Why is a tie-tack or bar considered nerdy?

I guess I am being influenced by the prevailing view set forth in this article. I personally would never judge anyone based on their tie accessories.

Bah! Don't listen to Slate. I have a few tie tacks that use to be my wife's grandfathers. Old school, gold, pretty cool. I get compliments on the all the time. I think it's more about the kind, not the actual thing.

But yeah, a jacket will help keep the tie in place as well as the skin in the event of a crash

(mine use to flop around all the time too, until I started wearing a hacket)

Good ties have 2 or 3 buttonholes in the narrow end and the wide end has a fabric loop sewn on the back side. The tie can be knotted, the small end slipped through the loop and then secured to a button. That will serve to keep the tie in place. Then, IMHO, an appropriate clasp or tack can be used as a trim item to break up the expanse of tie.

Most police departments that have a tie as part of the uniform issue a tie bar to each officer.

I also believe in cuff links for dress shirts. Tacky? Men who wear a suit jacket with jeans and sneakers and then attend weddings or funerals dressed like that.

Blowing Neckties
I can see that this tie problem can be really serious. Maybe someone should contact the engineers at Piagio and see if they can come up with a fix.

tie
Unbutton your second button from the top, tuck your tie in and then re button. Later just pull your tie out, is good up to 70 with a windscreen.
