I have run a non-profit swing dancing event in Albuquerque for over 10 years now where we average over 175 people every week. It is loads of fun. We focus on 'rockabilly' music but have just about every other kind of swing music represented.

If anyone ever comes through Albuquerque, we would love to introduce you to the super-cool dance scene we have here in town (and some of the scooterists who attend...)

Sidecar passengers are referred to as 'swingers'
Exciting but dangerous - lost a friend who came unstuck swinging at a speedway about 15 years ago.

That's for you guys on the other side. Here in the states we call 'em monkeys.
I used to be a "swinger" on a speedway sidecar rig. The only BMW to ever race speedway.
It was a helluva lotta fun.
As I recall speedway sidecar racing started in New Zealand and later found it's way over here.

I have a dirty mind and I'm disappointed.

I had a 70 something Swinger, green, I preffered my 64 Valiant, with the push button shifting and pull down parking lever. Made the mistake of trading it for a 1970 Volvo, damn that car sucked. Had some good times in that Valiant.

Yes my Mrs. Badpenguin and I are swingers. She is Eas Coast and Balboa and I am Lindy, Charleston, East Coast, and Balboa.

I even used to teach Lindy, Charlston and ECS down at Teo Leo's in San Diego.

Not as much as we used to, but we are in fact going to Rockabilly Rave this weekend in Vegas if nothing to see Big Sandy and his Flyrite Boys. We have given up on Viva Las Vegas...too big, too crowded, too clique. I plan on hitting Bikewest, their big biker convention...rumour has it that someone is doing some custom stuff with Triumphs and Vespas...they are even giving away a Bonnie.

Oh and as you can see by my signature...I love Spidey 80s Goth dancing...Ah the good ole' days of Club Therapy!

Don't give up on VLV - It will be way better next year I think with everything centered at the New Orleans Hotel. - Plus, if you stay away from the car show and drunks on the casino floor - the dancers are way cool... The best time to dance is always from 2-6AM when all of the scensters have left!!!! I've been to VLV 8 or 9 times and always had a blast dancing the nights away....

We are here now...and so far it is pretty nice. VLV we waited 1 and a half hours to check in...tonight we only waited 30 seconds.

It'll be nice to see Big Sandy actually play here. We are also going to check out that female bird from Holland.

West Coast swing is my favorite dance. My wife and I used to compete on the country circuit years ago.

I was just wondering how the Rockabilly Rave went earlier this month? I have heard from a couple of non-scooterists that it was pretty good (and that Big Sandy was awesome), and Tom Ingram (the event promoter) told me he thinks that 'atmosphere' will be just as good for VLV next year - I am really looking forward to the venue change!

It was a blast...$2 St. Pauli's girls. Plenty of dance floor real estate. Great bands. Funny British accents.

We really enjoyed it. The Orleans is a pretty decent place!

Big Sandy was great...but I really dug the Dutch band with the female singer, but their name escapes me.

We'd definately do the rave again!

Cool - good to hear!! I'll try to do both next year... Yeah, I heard that the Dutch act was great (Ms. Mary Ann I think?)
