Just bought a second hand 125 vespa et4 and the oil warning light comes on and stays on when the engine starts
Checked last owner service book and it has been highlighted that the dip stick was broken could this be the problem if so could it be trapped in an engine oil port/hole.
Is there anyway it could work its way to filter or would it just sit in the sump and cause no problems.

When the engine oil cap is removed oil is blown out of the filler hole is this ok or does this suggest that the oil presssure to high. (Know if you see this in a motor car engine it means problems)

Hope someone can help dont fancy stripping engine down if i dont need to.

Running with the oil light on is dangerous. That indicates no or very low oil pressure. It should go out once the engine starts.

You say the oil blows out the filler hole when uncapped. Does it do this with the motor off? How does the level look, between the marks?

loose parts inside the engine cases is NOT good. who knows what is going on in therre now. If you could retrive the dipstick part your probably still need to open it up for surgery. Part of buying a used scoot that you don't know the history or how the previous owner took care of it. The high oil pressure is probbly why they sold the scoot and not have to deal with the repairs. Hope you got a good deal when you bought it cause you probably are going to spend what you saved.

All leader engines will blow oil out of the filler hole with the engine running and the dipstick out.

That's why I asked the question if it did it with the engine off, which it should be, of course.

Yes was just clarifying. Please don't ask me how I found out. It was rather messy.....

thanks for help
Could dip stick be fished out via oil drain plug ?

fella that sold me bike said pressure light had been ON for a year and it was a faulty switch, of course he would say that however vespa was driven about 40 miles from his home to mine without any problems would it have seized over that distance if no oil was getting to top end of engine.

How can you test that the pressure switch is working correcty know i can check pressure with a gauge had a look on the internet but not sure what pressure gauge I should be looking for.
Is it a vespa only part or are there universal gauges out there that do this job ?

cheers
