I have an LX 150 with approx. 1500 miles.

It just started making a terrible clicking/whirring noise in the rear when I apply either the front or rear brake. It's like something is engaging that should because the scooter is already running.

The brakes themselves seem to work fine - it's just the terrible noise that sounds kind of like when you try to start a car that's already started.

It's intermittent - usually first thing in the morning but clears up riding for 5-10 minutes.

Thanks for any ideas.

This sounds like something you need to have checked out by a dealer ASAP.

Check your starter switch
Just a thought. Dose it make any noise with the engine off? If you hear a strange sound when the engine is running and the scooter is not moving my guess is your starter button is stuck. Try it start your scooter if you hear the sound when the brake lever is pulled in tap on the starter button or pull it out a bit.

Best of luck

I think I am on the money. Think about it you have to pull in the brake to activate the starter motor. If the button is sticking every time you touch the brakes the starter motor starts spinning.

GTS and the starter button sticks and you go brain dead also mentions this almost exactly. SFSC's comments reminded me, and luckily I found the thread.
See what you think.

I didn't know you could engage the starter once it was started? I thought I'd tried this accidently and it didn't work...

Sticky starter button....
Barry, you're a genius! My starter button was sticking! I'll get this replaced right away.

Thanks all for the quick responses.
