The main source of motivation is a supercharged 125cc engine with 20bhp (that's a lot for a four-stroke 125). Combined with the electric motors, that means there's a maximum of 29bhp on tap. This means the HYmotion3 has equivalent performance to 400cc rivals. Combine that with a stop/start engine that turns itself off when stationary and fires up instantaneously when it's time to pull away and you have a machine that's not only capable of out-cornering a traditional two-wheeled scooter in any weather while carrying two occupants in car-like safety, but one that's able to do all of the above while delivering 118mpg.
Check out le hypér cool. Voyez vous le futur du scooter.

I had a Peugeot BMX bike as a kid. Wasn't nearly as cool.

If the MSRP could be kept under $10k, I'd say it has a chance in the U.S. If not, it'll just become another novelty toy for the wealthy a la Segway, T-Rex, etc.

I'll be shocked if Peugot even bothers trying to get it certified for the US market. Frankly, I doubt they're even remotely interested.

I'd love to be wrong, though.

I think the one thing it's got going for it to put it above "novelty" status like the bikes/toys you mentioned are the practical features like fuel economy and a roof. Call me crazy, but I'd pay $10k for this. I commute on my bikes, so this would be way more than just a toy to me.

I'd like to think it would be all that much easier given the engine shut-off feature and the stricter EU emissions requirements to get it certified for the U.S., and even Piaggio seems to have bothered doing so for the GTS 300 coming next year. But yeah, you're probably right.

I wonder how much they will have to pay Piaggio for the front end. I'd bet pioaggio has patients for front end of the MP3 which this looks to "borrow" heavily from.

I don't think the issue is whether it would be difficult to get it certified for US. I think jess has it right. It is hard to imagine that Peugeot would be interested in the US market. They haven't sold their cars here for years and they make some good ones (including some great high-mileage diesels).

Too bad, I'd sure be interested. An all-weather, high safety, high mileage scoot. You bet!

Maybe Brudeli will bring in the Leanster. That looks pretty ready for the Cannonball Gravel Road Day, doesn't it?

At the rate we're becoming the United States of France, I wouldn't be surprised to see this Peugeot here sooner rather than later.

Ha ha. I'm reminded of a story I read at nytimes.com:
Quote:
Detractors spread the rumor that the government was looking not for a considered statement, but for a snappy, pithy "liberté, égalité, fraternité"-style slogan that it could plaster across government buildings in a kind of branding exercise.

Nor did it help when The Times of London cynically sponsored a British motto-writing contest for its readers.

The readers' suggestions included "Dipso, Fatso, Bingo, Asbo, Tesco" (Asbo stands for "anti-social behavior order," a law-enforcement tool, while Tesco is a ubiquitous supermarket chain); "Once Mighty Empire, Slightly Used"; "At Least We're Not French"; and "We Apologize for the Inconvenience." The winner, favored by 20.9 percent of the readers, was "No Motto Please, We're British."
I kid, I kid. J'aimerais à propre ce Peugeot, bien sur.

Looks awesome, sounds awesome.I can think of 3 possible cons already though.

1.Price will almost for sure be way over 10k
2.Whats the longevity of a souped up 125 engine?
3.I bet parts would cost more

I'm sure there's more.It would be great if they would have built it more practical, for starters how about 250,400 - 500 cc gasoline engines. Is it me or doe's it look way over done with to many complicated parts to break?

I believe the MP3 design will reign for years to come.

My guess is that the only way they could get Piaggio to lend the design for the front end was to agree to not compete in the back. Enter the 125cc hybrid...

I really love how Peugeot has used Bell & Ross designed central clocks in some of their recent concepts. If they let Bell & Ross design the entire central instrument cluster id be in love. Doesnt Piaggio work with Peugeot? This is just based on piaggio tech isnt it? Im sure they dont care about the similiar design.

This comes in one of their new cars

I hope the guy riding it is at least 6'7" tall.

Otherwise it looks like an awfully cramped cockpit.

Last time Peugeot was here, it was some company doing it without approval from the mothership. Peugeot then put a stop to their activities, and I heard something to the effect that they wouldn't sell motorcycles here until they sold cars here as well.

Take a look at the front suspensions closely, they don't have much in common aside from 2 wheels. Peugeot uses Piaggio engines in some models, and Honda engines in others. The supercharged engines are fuel injected Honda units. The working relationship consists of Peugeot buying engines from these two companies, and that's about it. They are the oldest continually operating motorcycle company, just slightly older than Harley Davidson.
