So I'm doing 60 (100km/h) when I notice there's a hornet just about to hit me (caught the black/orange blurr) anyways, hits me in the adams apple, which hurts enough as it is, and then, because apparently that didn't kill it, it stings me in the freaking throat...

Needless to say this REALLY hurt and I was going REALLY fast and ya...

Don't get stung in the neck doing 60. Or 0 even...

Hate when that happens. It's happen to me a few times also. This summer I also had issues with Japanese beetles. Man they hurt at 60mph!

Prior to wearing a full face helmet, I had a wasp fly into my helmet and sting me in the ear. That hurts!

I just learned about love bugs from my first officer who is from Florida--they were platered all over our windshield. Peculiar way to fly around...

something kinda similar happened to me on day 1 of cannonball - was going some 60-70 and my jacket's zippered sleeves were open, and a wasp flew right in there and decided to attack. stung in the forearm.

obviously nowhere near as bad as being stung in the neck.

My only consolation is the asshole died.

Eek! scary.

On the same track, I was once in my car at a stop light and felt this stinging sensation next to my eye-- batted wildly at what I imagined was a wasp, while trying to pull over, breaking my sunglasses in the process--

only to discover that I'd been hit in the eye by a glowing cigarette butt someone had flicked my way....

Bugs are bad. I got splattered a few years ago by a HUGE bug (unknown kind maybe a VW) but it looked like someone had squirted mustard all over my neck and shirt collar.

I got hit in my lower lip by a bee @ 50 mph on my second time on my Vespa. No sting, but it still hurt like hell and scared the f*ck out of me.

Didn't ride again until my FF arrived.

Got a yellow jacket inside my FF while riding downhill in the Dolomites on our Italy tour! Perched itself on my glasses. So I opened the visor when I had a break from the tight switchbacks for a free hand. Didn't faze it one bit. I really was in no position to try to free a hand to swat it away. It just walked around on the outside surface of the lens until it had seen all it wanted to see and then flew away.

I got hit hard in the chin by a big bug. Felt like I had been sucker punched and it left a huge bruise. I've heard a lot of friends tell me about the bee/wasp critters getting inside their helmets, jackets and so on and getting stung.

I haven't had a problem since I got my tall windshield. But I have had to pull over and clean off those lovely love bugs because they have completely covered my windshield. Oooky. My son use to pull them apart because he didn't like the idea they were doing the nasty.

Now that sound more painful than a throat wound!
OK fellow MV'ers, hear comes an educational moment. I also got stung in the throat this Summer. But they don't fly into us, we hit them.....I found out that I rear ended the offending bug basically causing the stinger to impact me at 60 mph minus the forward speed said bug was traveling. Apparently, no way can a stinging insect fly 60 mph and the possibilities of it stinging you if you hit it head on are much slimmer because impact would most likely kill it before it could sting you. So apparently I'm at fault and have been contacted by the Stingers attorney and insurance company Razz emoticon

On the way to AmeriVespa this year I somehow got stung on the neck between my jacket and helmet. We had to divert to a drugstore for benadryl. Now I carry benadryl just in case. Yes, I was a little sleepy for a few hours.

Cleaning up from the post-Ike windstorm, I disturbed a nest of hornets that I didn't know was on my front porch (under the wicker couch.)

Multiple stings on my legs and arm...the bastards flew up my pants legs, they did.

Those things hurt at 0 Mph! I can only imagine getting stung while in the saddle.

Worse, unlike bee (I'm not allergic) or wasp stings which usually don't bother me for long, these stung, burnt and itched for a solid week. Caladryl helped most. The venom (I was told) was too deep for topical ointments to reach.

I've never been stung while riding, though. That's an experience I hope to avoid, fer sure. But just in case...

Bobovespa, I think the idea of carrying Benadryl alongside the sunscreen in the scooter is a good idea. It's going on my trip list.

ewww. nastiness. my worst 0mph experience was a flock of bedbugs feasting on me in a posh hotel in NYC earlier this year. owich. i've still got the scars (i'm allergic and the bites turn into huge pus-filled volcanoes that take weeks to heal).

i doubt that there is much chance of this happening when one is actually on the scooter, however.

a bunch of us were riding down the road one day this past spring and i was out front. i saw what i thought was a bunch of pollen buds from trees floating our way. it turned out to be a swarm of bees that we all ran into. a few people in back had open face helmets and they saw it coming in time to put their heads down to avoid getting stung. there must of been hundred of them and no one got stung. we all got pelted with them, but that was it. apparently bees don't sting when they're swarming for a new hive.

Not exactly. A love bug is this fire-fly looking bug that swarms everywhere in the south between about August-October. They mate when flying and you tend to splatter them regularly. Yuck, bug sex.

Love bugs? Hornets? Bees? Been hit by all of them. Thank god for a face shield. I can never understand the harley guys and girls around here who don't wear helmets.....I got y'all beat.

I was hit by a BAT! Yes a flying, insect eating, rat with wings looking bat. About a year and half ago. I looked down at my are and it was hanging onto me......I think it was more freaked out then I was. I can now imagine him telling his fellow bats, back at the cave. "I got hit by a guy on a Vespa, it really freaked me out." Laughing emoticon

I got stung on the side of the neck last summer. The road is is marked 40 MPH so I was probably doing 50 minimum.

I never want to hit a bat. And you can keep the Love Bugs down south.

I HATE that. It hurt and burned for weeks afterwards.

I hope I don't get stung in the throat.

I hit one of those fuzzy bumble bees in the knee at high speeds a while back. Left quite a mark.
