Hi,

Any feedback is much appreciated.
When I fill up my tank the fuel gauge goes to full as it should. As fuel decreases it will only go halfway. The only indication I have that the fuel is running low is when the low fuel indicator lamp starts flashing (even though the needle is still halfway).
Could this be due to a faulty fuel level gauge? If it is how hard is it to replace this/how?

Thanks

The problem is probably in the sender unit, which is inside the gas tank. Gas tank must be removed for replacement.

Thanks for your reply.

Is the below picture a sender unit?

Is the gas tank easy to remove/is it easy to replace the sender unit?

I was hoping someone more familiar with the ET4 would chip in.

I have an LX-150, which I believe to be similar to your bike.

That looks like a fuel tank sending unit to me.

On the LX you unbolt one end of the rear shock to swing the rear end out of the way (you may have to remove the wheel, I don't know). Under the seat there are a few screws that go down into the fuel tank to hold it in place. The sending unit will be where the wires are attached.

My ride is a 2001 et4 so it is out of warranty. Oh, I'm from Melbourne, Australia so a bit far from where you are lol : )
Thanks for the reply.
Is it easy enough to reset it myself? Why does this happen?

me too...
I finally took my LX to the dealer today. They wanted the tank filled and this is how far it went...just below a quarter tank. They are keeping her overnight. I'll let you know what they say but sounds like sending unit

Papa Smurf, that is where I got my picture from. Do you know where this part is located exactly in the tank?

Thanks

My Vespa 250GTS does the same thing. It will go halfway, and then the low fuel light comes on after about a gallon has been used.

Fuel gauge
This is a common problem. Happened to my gts. I called vespa and the lady that answered the phone had a bad attitude. I was tryinhg to tell her about the defective sending unit. I also tried to tell her it was ah manfacturing problem. This was the same person that was at the Americad, in Lake george, New York ah few years ago. She had a bad attitude then. Was just not tuned in to hearing what i had to say or cared about the problem. tdilover

UPDATE
I left my scooter at the dealer a week ago because the gauge wasn't working properly and YES, it is the sending unit! They will be replacing it this week. I'll be left without a scoot for some time
