I have a place where you can order 60+ year old PRE-EMBARGO cuban cigars, which are totally legal in the states, incidentally, for about $3000 a box. Let me know when you're up for it.

I think it works out to ~ $65.00 a cigar. Thats a dollar for every year old the cigar is!

Nah, i'm splurging when i buy my favorite : Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 or 1992. And those are only $10-ish a cigar ( and for the love of god, don't buy the rocky patel "EDGE"...they are terrible ). I'm too cheap for the big stuff.

My normal smokes are 10-packs of Ashton Esquires, in the white tin. I prefer small cigars most of the time because of time commitment reasons - the Rocky Patel takes like 1.5 hours to smoke ...an ashton esquire might take me 20 minutes.

It seems wasteful to start a long-smoking cigar and not dedicate the time to it, so it's typically something i do after a big dinner ..and i'm sitting outside with friends around a fire or something.

If you want a quick little good tasting cigar, and don't care if it's machine rolled ( the ashton's are hand-rolled, and thus the cost ) ... Villiger Kiel exports are really good....and very cheap to get through JRcigars.com

That's what rules about jrcigars.com you buy a box of the thing you want, and they ALWAYS send you out a freebie of something else.... sometimes a humidor, or an expensive lighter ...sometimes more cigars, etc.

There's always a "But wait - there's more!" kinda deal before you hit the final checkout.

OK, here's a hand grenade I'll lob. Acids. Love 'em, tolerate them or dog turds?
I'll admit to liking them as a change of pace and keep a couple of them in our boxes.
As for regulars: CAO MX2, Ghurka Ancient Warrior, and a mix of other more traditionals. Mainly from CI.com

Whenever i'm having a cigar and want a non-cigar smoking friend to have one with me, i'll buy them an Acid Blondie. I defy someone to smoke one of those and not think it tastes like a desert.

So... i'll have one once in a very long while to mix it up... but i like my cigars to taste like tobacco and not be flavored with some other taste. They seem like the rich man's version of the "swisher sweet" to me

JR Cigar is brilliant. The only place to order cigars from in my opinion. Their specials and samplers are genius.

Everyone in a while a buddy comes to town and we go over to Nat Sherman and get a drink, a smoke, and hang out in the humidor. There are some great chairs in there looking over 42nd Street. Probably the most surreal way to enjoy a smoke.

Been a while since I've had one... doctors orders to cut them out (2-4 a day takes a toll). This winter I might try to smoke the occasional one....
... just talking about it makes me want to head over to Nat Sherman's.

A friend just gave me several Cuban Trinidad Fundadore's that he picked up on a recent trip out of the country. Fantastic cigars! I only wish I could buy them at a reasonable price in the USA. I used to travel internationally for business and I would always buy some when I was in Italy or Spain.

For many years, this specific cigar was made exclusively for Fidel Castro. Trinidad also has a plant in the Dominican Republic but I have tried those and they don't match up to the Cuban-made Fundadore.

I've only really smoked ONE real cuban.... given to me by a clubmate's father who is a Lawyer who does a lot of legal defense for motorcyclists ( particularly of the rebel gang 1% type ). They often can't pay him with money, so they will give him loot instead, so this particular time they gave him a box of these wonderful .....WONDERFUL cuban cigars....probably in the $50 @ neighborhood.

He gave me one and we sat at the kitchen table and smoked... and his wife, and a few female friends were also sitting around the table ( folks who would normally be repulsed by the smell ) and they could not get enough of it. It was like incense ...like perfume in the air.

It was like a really good BJ ..where, in the midst of it you can't help but continue to say "holy crap, this is the best thing ever" every 5 seconds ...so transfixed by the experience that you aren't really noticing how annoying or redundant you're being.

anyways.. best cigar ever.

Dang, you're a bit too late.
I stopped the habit a little while ago after surviving cancer. Sold all my sticks for a grand. Good ones!

I must admit, I enjoyed sniffing those humidors more than actually lighting one up. The aroma of certain Basil reminds me of them.

Eric, you're killing me. I love the Edge as well as the Edge Lite. Really, almost anything Rocky Patel makes is an above average smoke at a reasonable price. I personally like the Vintage 1999.

While hiking acroos Ireland last summer I stopped in a shop in Dublin that was outstanding. Almost exclusivly Cubans for sale. In the corner was probably 25-30 brown wrapped packages with US addresses on them. Owner told me that was just that days orders. They ship Cubans to anyone anywhere and have never had any problems. So I ordered a box of Monte Cristos when I got back and sure enough, one week later there they are at my door.

www.famous-smoke.com the best IMHO.

JR is decent. Their store (mostly crap but great cigars/prices) has a huge walk in humidor. I mean really HUGE.

Billy Connoly tells a great story about how he took up smoking cigars and quite liked the look it gave him. 8)
As he puffed on a big stogie he asked his teenage son "Do I look like a movie star?"
His son replied..."Yeah, you look like Lassie taking a dump!"

Online Cigars
We have a good outlet here in San Antonio that has a robust variety and reasonable prices. They also sell their cigars online. Here's the website:
http://www.finckcigar.com/default2.asp Since I like cheap cigars that are mild and have an easy draw, I gravitate toward the Macanudo Gold Shakespeares for my Saturday night stogie. Good luck in your quest.

JR is the greatest... I really enjoy reading the catalog. They always have great deals on something, I bought a bundle of Bock Y Ca corona sized smokes on my last order that were very tasty. When I feel I can splurge I like the Arturo Fuente - Hemingway Signature... easy to light and love the taste but they sell out really fast. I've been a customer for about 15 years.

It's a 7 minute Vespa ride from my house to JR's headquarters win Whippany, NJ. I am there 2 or 3 days a week. It is a pretty amazing place. Their walk in humidor is literally the size of a airplane hanger, with cigars stacked up 50 feet high. About 3/4 of the way up there are pipes spinning around, blowing out steam. There is also 2 cigar lounges, both decked out in oak with big fireplaces and wide screen TVs. There is a bar with a pretty great selection of scotches, ports, cognacs, and beers. They serve food, have a perfume shop, and a store where you can buy anything from humidors to biker apparel for REALLY good prices. And there is a custom motorcycle shop right next door with some pretty cool bikes. I dont mean to sound like a commercial, but I just really like this place. If you are ever around the area and looking for a place to ride, JR would be a great destination point.

PS. The biker apparel is more Harley type stuff. Leather jackets, saddle bags, gloves, chaps, etc, so if your looking for an armored mesh jacket or the like, this is not the type of stuff they carry. I bought leather gauntlet winter gloves there for $15.
