I'm back Just got in late last night. Spent the day in NYC monday and saw 10 vespas just on grove ave 28 of them while walking around the city but who's counting Many more than what i saw last year. Checked out the newest vespa dealer in schenectady. Peter has a great little shop. Also many thanks to murray and drew. You guys rock. Great to be back home. Now if i could only get rid of this jet lag i'd be a happy camper.

It's true. I see literally a dozen or more different scooters everyday, and a typical crosstown street will have two or three per block. Although I know a lot of local modern and vintage riders, they are far outnumbered by the riders who are not involved at all in any kind of scooter scene. That's fine, since I don't think there is any gathering place in town that could hold everyone.

We all see a ton of them, but like hendon said, there are a bunch that are not part of the "scene" at all. There are lots that ARE though, I guess.
Scootering in NYC is one of my favorite things. My other favorite is Mt. Hamilton, wherever that was in california. Amazing, amazing. I want to ride with some of you that have never been to NYC. you would like the ride around here. |

If you're suicidal, then yes, NYC is a great place to ride a scooter. Taxis, tons of cars, gridlock, etc. Maybe an automatic is better, but on my PX150, it's not that much fun. Stop, go, stop, go, and don't think of trying to get "around" traffic as there are usually cops around just waiting for such things.
Yes, it does get you to where you want to go a hell of a lot cheaper than a cab, no waiting for subway, etc., but parking is also a big issue here. License plate theft is huge. Most people use velcro to remove the plate when they park. Just don't park it on a sidewalk. Also, you may get it impounded etc., because there is no plate. The great catch-22. Basically what I'm saying is that owning/riding a Vespa/scooter in NYC is not as glamorous as a lot would like you to believe. |

NYC is my home, and I could not live anywhere else. I wont get into the "glamourous" aspects of Jersey city... |
