PIAGGIO MP3

Piaggio MP3 evolution. The superior dynamic qualities, the exceptional level of safety and the extraordinary versatility of the first three-wheeler scooter, in a new more refined style with new equipment for even greater comfort.

Piaggio MP3, in the version 125 cc, sets another technological record: the first scooter in the world equipped with Ride by Wire technology for electronic throttle management.

Launched in 2006, the Piaggio MP3 took the world by storm with its two front independent tilting wheels. Over 30 thousand MP3s sold all over the world made this absolutely innovative project a resounding success, a project that redefined the concept of dynamic stability.
For 2009 the Piaggio MP3 comes with a series of technical and aesthetic developments that reinforce its image, and its mission as the Piaggio flagship in the most prestigious GT segment.

Ride by Wire system and electronic injection on the MP3 125 ie.

The 125 cc version of the MP3 is fitted with electronic injection and the revolutionary Ride by Wire system for the electronic control of the accelerator - the first scooter on the market to be equipped with this system. On the MP3 125 ie there is no mechanical connection between the accelerator and the throttle valve which, located in the intake manifold, varies the quantity of air to mix with the petrol. The result of the electronic control of this fundamental phase for the engine is optimized carburation: the fuel/air mix injected into the combustion chamber is always perfectly calibrated to suit the driving conditions of the vehicle.

Improved fluidity on the road means greater driving comfort, the torque curve is flatter, power and maximum torque are delivered at lower revs (respectively 250 and 1,000 rpm lower than the carburettor version). Fuel consumption is noticeably lower too (more than 20% less than the carburettor version) and emissions are also lower, way below the limits of the law.

The cooling system has also changed for the MP3 125 ie engine, which is now managed by an electronic system, to guarantee less energy absorption and better fuel economy. The scheduled maintenance on the Piaggio MP3 125 ie engine is much more convenient, with interventions every 10,000 km, instead of every 6,000 km for the carburettor version. The MP3 125 ie also has a new transmission casing, designed to reduce transmission noise.

More style, more comfort.

All three versions of the Piaggio MP3 - 400, 250 and 125 cc - come in a new, more refined style with new equipment, for even more sumptuous all-round comfort.
From a technical point of view, the 125 and 250 versions are similar to the 400 "flagship", with a 14" wheel at the rear (12" on earlier models) for even more control and improved road-holding.

The new and more elegant restyling of the MP3 family is highlighted by the car-look grille, a new finish, blue tinted windscreen and headlights, new inserts with alternating painted and chromed parts, and a new passenger grab handle.

Comfort has also increased thanks to the increased protection and more comfortable layout for the passenger.
the rear section of the seat has been redesigned for maximum passenger comfort.
the new passenger grab handle incorporates a backrest.
the windscreen is larger and provides excellent weather protection.

Piaggio MP3: a unique project.

Riding the Piaggio MP3 is an absolutely revolutionary experience, thanks to the suspension system and two front wheels which make the vehicle much more stable than a scooter in curves. At speed, even when riding behind other vehicles, the Piaggio MP3 stays stuck to the road and can always deliver maximum performance in total safety. The benefits of the three-wheel revolution really make themselves felt on wet roads and in other riding conditions that are critical for conventional two-wheelers.
In town and city centres, the Piaggio MP3 is unrivalled in terms of safety: it negotiates cobblestones, rough roads, tramlines and manhole covers with previously unachievable, sure-footed stability.

The dimensions of a maxi scooter combined with amazing agility mean the Piaggio MP3 is completely at home in the city centre where it is also safe and easy to park thanks to an electro-hydraulic system that locks the suspension so the MP3 can stand upright even without using the stand.

The revolutionary Piaggio MP3 LT can stop in distances so incredibly short that no other scooter can hope to compete: using just the front brake, thanks to a triple disc braking system and the exceptional grip offered by the two front wheels, stopping distances are 20% shorter than those of the best conventional scooters.
When the road leaves the town behind, the Piaggio MP3 really shows its true colours. Road holding, cornering safety and a lean angle unattainable for conventional scooters guarantee immense riding satisfaction on fast country roads.

The engine on the one above looks different from any that I've seen before. Wonder if this is the new 125 ie lump? Can't see from the figures on the side.

But will it be cheaper than the existing 250?
