haha I like the whole bit about explaining to your wife it isn't a motorcycle.

Do most people use the lock like that or do they just put their feet down?

I think most people use the lock the first day or so, and then revert to putting their feet down. It's easier and foolproof.

Jay is awesome! He was the guest speaker at the Piaggio dealer meeting and the guy is not only hilarious, he's really into cars and bikes. I read an article he writes every month for Popular Mechanics. He's also got a vid on his site reviewing the Aprilia Mana, and possibly another as well.

BTW.. I use the lock every time I ride an MP3. I just have to make sure I remember not to try it when on my GTS.. The funny thing is how many people think that the MAIN reason for the third wheel is so that you don't have to put your feet down. People with no riding experience, that is. It's actually the most annoying question someone could ask at a Vespa dealership: "So what's the advantage of the extra wheel up front?" Not that it's a necessarily bad question, just one that gets answered every few minutes. It's now worse than: "So why should I buy a scooter instead of a motorcycle?" or even the more recent: "So, have your sales gone up since gas prices have increased?" Heheh.. I think I was "that guy" at an MV Agusta dealer when I asked if he had seen sales go up since Dark Knight..

Heh I use the tilt lock almost all the time, no particular reason for it I guess I just got used to hitting the lever when coming to a stop. I agree it can turn around and bite you though if you aren't paying attention.

I don't use the tilt lock except for parking. It's no big deal to balance at a stop light/sign and I'm afraid I'll forget to engage it some time, or have the balance problem taking off if it's not straight and upright.

I use the suspension lock all the time. Rarely EVERY put the feet down, but then I do have in excess of 10,000 total miles on MP3's.

The one that I love is "First time I've ever seen one like that" or, as they say here in the deep south, "Dayum, I ain't never seen one uh them before!". My standard reply is "You know, you are not the first person that has said that to me!". 18 months of riding MP3's and I still get that at least once every time I am out on it. I was out to one of our weekly bike nites last evening and a dozen or more people were all over the MP3, asking all of the usual questions. I passed out at least 6 brochures. Its fun to be the only scooter at a motorcycle bike nite and the scooter drawing more attention that all of the motorcycles combined.
