Greetings all,

I have just rolled up 1600 miles on my 2009 MP3-500. I started noticing at around 1000 miles the bike seemed to be running smoother and accelerating much quicker. This trend seems to be continuing. Almost ever time it I get on it now, I keep thinking "Damn, this thing is running nice!". Anyone else having this same experience? From those of you with more mileage on your bike, at what point did you feel that the engine was completely settled in? I also have a Honda Silver Wing, which is a "slammin" scooter as far as acceleration is concerned, and felt that the MP3-500 was not even in the same class when I first got it, but it seems to be continuously "sneakin'" up on the Honda. What say you?

I just passed 1,000 and was on a road trip (another thread) where I kept the speed up to 78 (by speedometer) or above most of the way. One time a guy moved to the shoulder to let me pass and I goosed it, thought "Damn, this is running smoothly," and looked down to see 93 on the speedometer. I would agree. Your observation doesn't surprise me.

Break-In
I did not exceed 5,000 rpm for the first 500 miles. Between 500 and 1000 miles I ran it up to 6,000 intermittently. I changed oil (Castroil 20/50) twice in the first 1440 miles. At 2031 miles I went to Mobil T4 Racing 10W/40. I can feel the difference in performance! I now have about 2,400 on the clock. Very smooth.

Almost 1k on mine, and I am just starting to notice some performance gains, but to be honest I did some other things as well:

1. I aired the tires up to 2 passenger weight and pre-loaded the shocks a notch up from where they were. acceleration is much improved, but it could be due to the tire pressures.

Will mostly be riding 2 up (+300 lbs) upon initially taking delivery of a 400 next week. What PSI are you utilizing for the front and rear tires?
